Can anyone tell me why STEAM kicks me from the Doom 3 multiplayer server ?

The STEAM popup box is stating something like....My Doom3.exe is an irregular size.

Now I have played in the same server for over two years, and this just started yesterday. And I did not update anything either.

Played it six hours two days ago, then yesteday, it kicks me repeatedly.

Any clues why ?
__________--

Update :

Just tried to join a server again, and THIS happens. It reversed its damn self.

Now it is saying [non steam]

I used to think Steam was awesome but after the past year and multiple issues with many games (especially big company "A" titles) I am thinking its better to buy the disc version and use a hack if necessary.

Way too much BS with the games they sell. Wings Of Prey keeps giving me problems and nobody wants to take accountability for it cuz I got it through Steam.
Some games got harder to use after a big Steam update because they also forced GFWL on top of it. Dawn of War 2 and Red Faction 3 come to mind as ready examples. KOTOR has new issues under Steam and they never fixed any of the old ones.
Thats another thing, if they are going to sell a game they need to make sure it works. Only a handful have received fixes but most of them are just as broken as when they first came out. Adding Steam into the mix usually makes more problems too. The only titles that seem to benefit were Valve games specifically designed with Steam usage in mind, like HL2, CS Source, L4D and TF2.

And Doom 3 came out when there were no online distribution system, so good luck getting anybody to deal with the problem.

Am grateful for their bargains and relatively convenient interface, but if I cant play the stuff I buy then dirt cheap is still a ripoff.

I would verify the game cache.

As to other things. Actually, the games that I have played I can use non-implemented patches and hacks. For example, I use a few patches (both official and unofficial) for Evil Genius. I use fan made patches on Quake and Quake 2 to get high resolution widescreen and 3D acceleration. I have fan made patches on KOTOR to get widescreen. I get these from the Steam forums so they are tacitly approved by Steam though they are all user made. Mainly it's the damn publishers that are lazy because the user patches that I have for Quake, Quake II, and Broken Sword II are to add back in the CD music that they did not include.

I've had problems with GOG too. The Pro Pinball Timeshock is the DOS version but DosBox does not allow high resolution despite the fact that Timeshock is built for 1600x1200. However, there is a modified DosBox build out there that allows for that high of a resolution so I had to get that build so that I could play Timeshock as it was meant to be.

So it's all caveat emptor but I have not had a problem implementing the hacks and patches that one would use on a version off of physical media. I would just peruse the Steam forums to see what people have done.

Well, I would verify the game cache...BUT...My Doom 3 installation is not affiliated with STEAM at all.

Of course, If I add Doom 3 to STEAM...In my games list it only lists Doom 3 as a shortcut.

Or is there another way to add it that I dont know about ?

..If it's not a steam version, steam isn't kicking you. You can't just add it to steam - only very few, very specific titles can be activated in the fashion you're talking about. You can't convert a non-steam game to a steam one except in very limited situations.

Yes, it is STEAM kicking me. The popup says so.

Ill post a screenshot of it here in a few minutes.

Steam is probably only giving you a Message because it was sent it the Message when Doom 3 crashed. Try running it direct from the Doom3 exe and not from the Steam shortcut.

Like I said above. This game is "not" associated with STEAM. At all. It also was not purchased through STEAM. I bought Doom 3 on release day "hard copy"

There is no Doom 3 shortcut in STEAM. I only tried that temporarily. Reinstalling STEAM, and exiting STEAM still brings the error.

I have also ran it from the original .exe. Just like I have since I bought the game.

What Ive done so far......

Added Doom 3 to STEAM. Did not solve problem.
Removed shortcut from STEAM. Did not solve problem.
Uninstalled STEAM. Ran original .exe like I have for years. Did not solve the problem.

Edit: I have also ran the original Doom 3 .exe through Xfire. Did not solve the problem.

It's not clear that Steam itself is actually doing anything, at least not on your end (especially if the problem occurs after you have uninstalled Steam). Is it possible that the server you're trying to connect to will allow connections only from Steam versions of the game? I don't know if that is even possible but that's the inference I draw from the message you're getting. Does this problem happen with just one server or have you tried connecting to a bunch of servers and still get the same error?

Looks like you've got a modified executable and the anti-cheating code is nailing you. Patches up to date, and no cracks or cheats?

I have not done anything or changed anything in over 2 years. It was perfectly fine up until yesterday. And started this immediately.

And NO...nothing is modified, and I do not cheat.

It looks like there's a Version mismatch between you and the Server. Does this Server have a Wesbite and Forums? If so, ask there, perhaps they have made a recent change.

looks like maybe someone with a pirated copy of the game has your cd-key, have you tried other servers?

Yea, I have tried a few other servers. And the main server I usually play in, is where this error is. The other servers, are perfectly fine.

Don't make any sense. At all.

Good luck with this because you won't have much.

I stopped buying steam games a long time ago. Don't care if they are $5, $1 or even free. You won't see me buying a new steam game ever. Easier. Thankfully not all games need steam to run.
