I played PC games that came on 5 1/2 inch floppy disks. I downloaded the Doom demo over Gopher.

You didn't have the right to resell games back then either. It was simply difficult to enforce the law.

Lol I had 5.25", 3.5", and even cassettes. My PCs have been: Apple II, II+, IIe, Vic-20, Amiga, c-64 and c-128, 8086/8088 sysytems, and then finall the x86 systems in the 90s. My original apple 5 mb hard drive that was as big as a shoe box might have had a 5.5" wafer in it..
