FUCKING STEAM FUCKED ME UP THE ASS AGAIN!

Bought GalCiv 2 a while back. At the time nothing special. Go in today to finally start playing it. Turns out I have to sign up and register with Stardock. Fucktards! The main reason I like their games is theres no bullshit DRM.

Went page to steam store page, all of a sudden theres a notice you have to sign up with Stardock.
Fuckers pulled a Wings Of Glory on me again.

I thought you were only required to register it if you want updates. Or does that only apply to the boxed version?

Also, sucks to be you.

Nope. If you buy a Stardock game on Steam nowadays, you must create an account and register each game.
They probably wanna know how much money they are losing.
Stardock has a digital distribution system too, but its a clunky mess compared to Steam. I guess they felt they needed to join the Hive Collective to survive in a hostile world.

Same with the Arkham Asylum and City games. They do note the special requirements on the game pages though...

I see a big notice on GalCiv2

While a small notice buried in the system requirements on Arkham City.

This thread is useless without prices. (not really, but pretty close)

There are only three games, at the most, that I would even be interested in on that list.

MW games rarely go down in price and with how well Skyrim has been selling, I doubt we'll be getting a price drop until mid next year

I can see it being packaged with Morrowind/Oblivion/FO3/ for something like $70-80 in a Bethesda blowout sale, or something like that.

Steam has been feeding me some small game updates recently. That makes me wonder if we'll see an event similar to the Summer Sale where we could get tickets and redeem them for prizes. Since during the Summer Sale, a game would receive a new achievement that was checked for the ticket.

If you look at Toki Tori, it has an achievement that states "Coming Soon!"

http://steamcommunity.com/stats/TokiTori/achievements

I've received downloads today for...

Team Fortress 2 - No "Coming Soon!" achievements (it did receive the new "Australian Christmas" update)
Dungeon Defenders - No "Coming Soon!" but it does have a new "Jingled All the Way" achievement
Defcon - No "Coming Soon!" but it does have a new "Merry Christmas" achievement
Toki Tori - mentioned above
Frozen Synapse - No "Coming Soon!" but it does have a new "Now I have A Machine Gun. Ho Ho Ho." achievement

There may be a few games that I don't own or haven't downloaded that have been updated with new achievements as well.

these updates have annoyed the piss out of me--especially when they keep updating my Demos (Bastion, Divinity III, something else), and massive downloads for games that I don't touch: 1Gb for Sanctum?

I started manually shutting off auto-update for each game, and deleting these demos. Couldn't find a library-wide "turn off auto update" button. :(

Weird because I own the full version of those and they haven't been updated at all.

I have seen a few new updates for things like Flight Control though!

Stardock sold Impulse to Gamestop - that's why their games are on Steam at all now. Their games have always required registration of some type (usually for updates) but their "no DRM" thing has always meant no SecuROM or CD-Keys.

If you find free e-mail registration to be an onerous form of "DRM", I'm not sure what to tell you.

Yup, 1pm EST is when sales go live. I'll have a thread started for it then

Please do !! This is my first time wondering about Steam - been a console gamer for years prior.

How long do the sales run?
