*Mods - if this is in any way a violation of the forum rules, please erase.*

I tend to be long-winded, I'll try to keep this short.

- Got Gish activation code on the latest Humble Bundle - had it already activated from a prior Humble bundle (donate to the Humble Bundle if you haven't by the way - but then again you'll end up w/ 1 extra Gish code if I gave it to you). I have no idea how to be fair in giving this out, so whoever posts the 10th post in this thread will get the activation code.

Good luck!

Locked while investigating.

This is probably against the forum rules since the Humble Bundle's website says "Note: all keys are for your personal use only."

This is what I was going to say as well. You aren't supposed to give out the keys unless your entire purchase as a gift (which I believe goes directly to them anyway).

Ya, it's a nice thought, but if people want the game, let them buy it - you got the key for an extra discount for a reason. You only own it for your use, even if a duplicate.

I was certainly not aware of that, but I will keep my word and give it out, this time, at least.

Edit: I do have an extra copy of HL2 and HL2: Ep1 in my steam acct that I *can* give away, may I'll do that for the holidays or something.

Keeping your word to do something you found out is wrong is wrong.

I don't see how this is wrong. Just b/c Steam says you shouldn't do it does not make it wrong. If you got the code when you purchased something, you essentially purchased the code as well. You should be able to give away something you purchased no matter the form it comes in.

This is obviously one of the problems with digital distribution. Somehow, the company thinks that just b/c it did not mail you a copy of the game on physical media, they can somehow tell you giving it away is not legal. Ridiculous. What is the difference between giving away a free key and giving away a free copy of a game on physical media?

That's just you not understanding the difference. What's the price of each version?

That's why a DVD might cost $500 for an institution who will show it to large groups - not even commercially - and $10 for a license for 'home use only'.

It's why a 'digital rental' usable only on your tv that can't be resold might sell for even less. Why an indie bundle limited license is practically free while boxed media is more.

Stop hating on the man, he was kind enough to give out the key. Thanks again! My Steam collection was starting to get pale and skinny. It must be fed!

You're a pirate. Giving out a non-distributable key is no different than pirating.

In other news, I'm giving out one of Ravenseal's belongings to the 10th response.

You must be a lawyer. They are a plague worse than pirates. For the record, I'm against pirating digital media, however I fail to see how this is morally similar to pirating.

I don't see how that's the same thing at all.

I agree with Spittledip. Just because it's against Humble's "rules", doesn't make it morally wrong at all. The key was legitimately purchased through legitimate means. I imagine the only reason why they state "These keys are for your own personal use only" is so everyone has to buy their own bundle, because the site wouldn't make as much money otherwise.

Well, and another other reason for the rule may be because of an agreement between HIB and the developers. But they must realize that they have no control over this. The key was legally purchased regardless, so I don't see a problem with giving it to someone else.

If Schadenfreude was selling it, it would be a different story. But he's not. (Not to mention it would be pointless since anyone can go to HIB's website and purchase the bundle for however much they'd like anyway)

I think we just need to take a deep breath and remember... this isn't P&N. ;) I think the phrase, "crying over spilled milk", works rather well here.
