Steam game download crashing

Hello,

So, last week I purchased a new graphics card and installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 Pro 64bit on my desktop. I then proceeded to install all of my drivers and commonly used software, including Steam. A few days later I purchased and installed Fallout: New Vegas from Steam but I haven't been able to get it working. The game will load the main menu just fine but when I try to start a new game, it plays the opening movie, shows the load screen for my game, and then crashes to Windows. This happens every time, the same way, without a single successful load. No specific error message is given when the game crashes, instead I just get a message like, "Fallout has stopped working. Windows is checking for a solution to the problem." I was able to successfully download and play Battlefield: Bad Company 2 from Steam and have had no such issues with other software/games installed on the computer. I have uninstalled/reinstalled Fallout twice without any luck. As far as I can tell, I have all the latest drivers and Windows updates.

My hardware setup is as follows-
Q6600 @2.4ghz
ASUS GTX560
4GB DDR2ram
MSI mobo, forget the specific model atm.
Windows 7 pro 64bit

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I would be happy to provide any other information that might help.
Thanks very much.
