Can preload now, starts tomorrow at 10am PST.

They will probably make it the weekend deal as well for some low lame percent off like they did with MW2.

Nice, I already bought it awhile back. How much you think it's going to be?

Holy cow. Activision? Doing a free-weekend with Call of Duty? Has Bobby Kotick gained a little humility?

Hm. I could probably beat SP in a weekend..I've never been big on MP (except for BC2, which was fun), so this'll work out nicely. :p

Hmm, I'll give this a shot.
I haven't played a CoD game since CoD2, my multiplayer FPS game has been BFBC2 lately, how does this compare?

Of course it won't be a huge percentage off. MW games never drop in price quickly. Even when MW2 was out, MW1 was still like $30 or $40.

Cool I'll give it a try. Always been more into battlefield but free is free.

If they do go ahead with the 33% off, it'll be 40$. I might spring for that even if its morally wrong on many different levels, and just to think they are starting up subscriptions soon too. Activision is the devil. If I were smart I'd wait for BF3 and spend my money there instead. However, supporting a free weekend, reduced price, and sale might prompt Activision to get with the program. Have they ever heard of Battlefield Bad Company 2? 15$ ? BF3 is still fairly out of view.

60$ games need to die a bloody painful death. And quick. I buy the majority of my games on the PC for just this reason. The 50$ price point is bad enough. Its not just 60$ games, its Activision 60$ games which years after release are STILL 60$.

Was it 33% off the whole weekend or just the final day.

Don't forget there is already 1 map pack out and another one coming out (hence this free weekend). So you'll end up spending $60 if you don't want to get kicked of a server when a match ends and it goes to a map you don't have.

Just don't buy it. They will not get the messaged other then, people will buy our game if we just discount it some.

They could kiss my ASS. I'm gonna play it for free this weekend, then I'm gonna delete it. All this map pack crap, raising the bar to $60, likely no future dedicated servers, same run n gun style, same engine, future monthly fees... Screw them

Wow, that's total bullshit. I would have hoped you could filter servers by whether they have the map pack or not. Since you can't, I am not even going to bother playing over the free weekend.

Fuck Call of Duty, Activision has ruined the series.

They do it purposely so people are nearly forced to get the pack otherwise they are getting booted often.

I was wrong about that $60 price too, with the current game sell and two map packs it is actually $70

This is how I ended up buying the map pack as well. I feel guilty for giving more money to such an underhanded company...

So there isn't a workaround for the map packs.
So the game really actually costs 70$ this weekend? How can this be.
Is this problem due to the non dedicated servers?

I don't know how Black Ops' multiplayer works. With console-style matchmaking (like in MW2), it should be possible to simply segregate players who have no map packs, one of the map packs, or both map packs, and only match them up against each other. With dedicated servers, it's entirely up to the server admins whether they want to include DLC maps in the rotation. But maybe Black Ops uses a different system that completely prevents segregating players based on DLC while also preventing non-DLC servers.

It should be that simple, but in actuality it's not. Unless a server specifically says in the title whether or not it includes DLC you have no way of knowing. That means you care constantly getting kicked from servers if you don't have the DLC.

Of course the moment I paid for the map pack I wasn't able to find servers running DLC anymore. :(
