Uh, no. Steam is a content distribution and community platform, not a game engine. It's still up to the game developers to write game engines that will work with Linux.

Yeah but it could help put a foot in the door to have more game developers write their game engines with linux in mine as well.

It could, but not really. Devs aren't going to start spending considerable time coding for 2 OSs just because a game can be DL'd in Linux. It'll be nice for any games that are on Steam that can run natively in Linux (Quake/Doom/etc.) but that's about it for awhile.
