Yeah, I'm waiting for them to straighten their shit out. Dead Space games are marked down too but I don't know if that was due in error or not yet.

It is funny how Steam still regularly screws up putting new sales up even now hah

Looks like they fixed it all now, if they screw up is any indication tomorrow will be Dead Space Day with DS1 $4.99 75% off and DS2 $29.99 25% off

They had both the Crysis games for $10 before. Better off waiting till they that low, or lower again in that case.

Crysis Maximum is both of them (Crysis and Warhead)

It's a good deal for both of them. I doubt it is going to get much if any cheaper then that for a very long time. It's the same price it was during the holiday sale as a daily deal.

Is anybody else having any audio difficulty with Mass Effect?

I downloaded it last night (in about an hour; why the hell did I wait so long to switch from DSL to cable?!?!?!?) and it plays much better on PC imo.

But the sound effects are so loud in spots (especially on the ship) that I can't hear the dialogue. I've tried everything, including updating my Realtek drivers, but nothing helps. If I set the music and sound effects to zero they don't play, but even at 1 they seem max out and drown out the spoken words.

I had all kinds of sound issues with Mass Effect. Weird stereo effects (where some sounds would only play out of one of the speakers), volume level issues, etc.. Turns out it was due to SecuROM (at least in my case). I just uninstalled that game after that.

There's no SecuROM in the Steam version, so that can't be it. Have you tried turning audio hardware acceleration on or off?

There is no Securom but that may be the problem itself.
DRM was so deeply rooted into Mass Effect that anybody who tried to work around it got all sorts of gameplay errors.
Heck, some folks with the legitimate version got gameplay errors because of the DRM.
Would not be surprised if they did a half-assed job removing it and made new issues.

Yeah I tried everything - even changing the config file. Unforunately I've been too busy to mess around with it since that night, but hopefully I can figure something out. I don't want to go through the game reading subtitles, because the combat system is much more fun and satisfying on PC than on the Xbox. The party inventory system is better too.

It seems much easier to press and hold the spacebar to pause during battle and use the mouse to switch stuff.

Screw you Steam, take my money

Got Mass Effect 2 the other day, picking up Dead Space 1 and 2 now.

I haven't beaten Mass Effect yet...I'm relatively close to finishing, so I think I'll wrap it up so I can get to Mass Effect 2.

I'm interested in Dead Space 2 but not at $43.50 (Sweden). There has to be a reason for European Steam prices being so much higher. Someone suggested that they're doing it on purpose so as to not disturb the last bastion of PC retail.

Mass Effect 1 was poorly ported to PC, the lighting in particular looks completely different than the X360 version for no apparent reason. The 360 version is bright and colorful while the PC port has muted and muddied colors. And then there's the incessent audio issues plaguing the PC version. I'm not sure if it was my old Audigy 2ZS or not but audio was buggered to all hell - Shepard's gun was waaay louder than everything else, and the cutscenes would occsaionally be silent or near-silent with only "footsteps" being audible...etc. Very annoying, although that was somewhat minor (it didn't detract too much from an otherwise awesome game).

Anyway, love ME1 and it is definitely great on the PC. It just could have been that much better had the porting issues been worked out. I should try it on my Realtek onbard audio sometime, I haven't fired it up since I ditched the old Audigy 2ZS...

Is Dead Space decent? Sounded cool when I read about it a long time ago but never really read any opinions. For $5, I guess it doesn't matter.

I played the first one for about an hour, thought it was shit. The controls are unbelievably bad. It's like no one ever even play tested it, they're so awful. You'd think controls for a third person action game would be a solved problem, but they managed to screw it up.

played a bit of DS1 on a friends computer, it has horrible horrible mouse sensitivity issues, makes it every hard to aim properly, other then that the controls werent too bad and the game was pretty fun

I own and played DS1 on the PS3 and enjoyed it a fair amount. I've heard the controls for the PC, at least the mouse controls that is to be very sluggish.
