So far Nikopol is pretty good. I've been playing it for about an hour. It's very much a point-and-click adventure game; meaning it's totally controlled with the mouse (in other words, you don't move around with WASD. You have to click on the door to move into the next room, etc).
The storyline and atmosphere is totally nailed. The graphics are very detailed and beautiful. The voice acting is OK... the main character has a very non-cheesy pleasant-sounding voice, which is important, since he narrates everything. It sounds good.
The controls don't feel "fiddly" at all, unlike what some other reviewer said.
My only complaint is just the nature of the puzzles themselves. They're hard, and more often than not, completely ridiculous and inane. You'll encounter problems where you'll think you have a solution that makes total sense, but the game doesn't want you to solve it that way, and will only let you progress in the way that it wants to. To be fair, I guess this sort of thing is just inherent to puzzle/adventure games... there is only one way to solve a problem, and it doesn't always make the most sense. But you're forced to do it anyway. Even when you think there's a more practical solution, it's not the one the game wanted you to do, so fuck you.
There are some puzzles which feel like they shouldn't even be there at all; like they simply don't make sense in the context of the game, and you shouldn't have to spend your time figuring it out. But alas... the game is billed as having puzzles, so it will have puzzles I guess. Even if they seem completely arbitrary.
If you're willing to deal with the puzzles, then it's a great point'n'click adventure. Very atmospheric with an intriguing, interesting, story and setting. I (somewhat) recommend it I guess.
