Wow. Hasn't Prototype been as cheap as $7.50 during the Christmas/Summer sales? $14.99 is a terrible price considering how old it is. Even worse than the current $10 Sims 3 promo.

I bet they're counting on sales because Prototype 2 is coming out soon, which sounds like a really stupid line of thinking, so that's probably what Activision is doing :p

Pretty good game, very inspired by Mirror's Edge. Get it if you like first-person parkour type stuff.

I really wanted to play this game because I'm into physics games/modes of game and loved Mirrors Edge. I was severely disappointed. The whole game revolves around a mechanic of jumping off vertical surfaces. I found the controls to be really wonky and the online play was really shoddy.

I wasn't a fan but I loved the concept. Maybe they've fixed it?

Yeah, it actually looks like it might be kinda fun. My backlog is so huge I shouldn't even be considering it, but for $5.. Damn you steam sales!

You should be fine. The only issue I can think of is that it's very consolized, i.e. you have to navigate through the menus with your keyboard, and to change the graphics options, you have to pause while in-game and find the correct menu by pressing F1 - F2 or some shit like that.

But yeah. It's a decent arcade racing game, although I think it's a bit overrated.

The soundtrack is your standard teenage punk rock type stuff - really annoying - so I turned off the music. Unfortunately there's no way to turn off the main menu music, which is perhaps the most annoying music of all. It plays the same song everytime you start up the game: "TAHKE ME HOME TO-AH PARADISE CITY WHERE THE GRASS IS GREEN AND THE GIRLS ARE PRETTY", it's some really redneck bullshit. There is no grass in Paradise City, nor are there any girls.

In fact, Paradise City is completely devoid of life... which is one of my other complaints with the game. I remember when they announced this game back in ~2007, and they were like "It's an open-world racing game in this huge, bustling city! Go anywhere you want! Explore everywhere! etc, etc!". But in the final game, what it turned out to be is this huge, empty, dreary, grey-colored, emotionless city where absolutely nothing exciting happens and there are no pedestrians or living beings in sight. You'll find more color in the game's logo than in the actual game. It's kinda depressing.

There's tons of racing events, but most of them are pretty much the same. The only thing that kept me playing for a little while is the class progression which allowed you to buy better and better cars throughout the game.

Yeah... this post was supposed to be only a couple sentences long and turned into several paragraphs. I guess I hate this game more than I thought.

I rented it for the 360 and sorta hated it sorta liked it -- I'm a fan of more conventional racing games.

However, I purchased it for the PC because I will get $5 worth of value out of it.
