The whole system is broken, mine says I played just 13 hours of Skyrim... yet I have spent hundreds (if not thousands) of hours on it. Same for Civ 4 etc, it just seems broken for most games.

The way Steam syncs information breaks a lot of the metrics in my experience. I also used to play a few games simultaneously and it never calculated my playing time correctly. I think just trying to multitask completely breaks Steam's functionality similar to how it would pause downloads if you started playing a game while downloading another and you'd have to tab out to restart the download, but even after it would finish it would just hang at 100% until you closed the other game.
