Steam and CS Source problem

I am having a very strange issue with CS Source. I just installed steam and source and when I go to actually join a server, all the lights on my cable modem go out and it tries to reconnect, but it wont until I quite steam completley. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I have gotten as far as actually getting into a server, but within one minute the cable modem drops everything and I have to quit.
 
anyone have any ideas? its a very strange problem....i might have to find some other multiplayer game to test out, but my internet connection is perfectly fine otherwise
