So I sit down in Steak & Shake and I'm waiting for the waitress when I realize that I only have $3 in my money clip. No biggie, I have my debit card and several credit cards with me. Waitress comes up and I ask for a diet cola, and since she was a hottie, I make small talk about how embarassing it would have been if they did not take my debit card cause I did not have time to go to ATM and did not have any cash on me. She says "well you shouldn't be embarrased...but we don't take credit cards, we are cash only. There is a big sign on the front door that says just that." So I muster up all of the courage and dignity I have left...I look this hot lil' babe right in the eye and I says...D'OH!!!!! Then I head quickly for the door.:eek::eek::eek::eek::Q

I had to go to Frisch's Big Boy for lunch........I'm home now and I still have not gone to ATM. I left the $3 as a tip to the waitress at Frisch's.

They seem to vary, where my wife's parent's live they have 2 of them in the same city, one of them accepts credit cards, yet the other one in the same city doesn't.
Go figure.

So much for the plastic world folks, due to the rising costs ( FEEs) of doing business for merchants via the plastic electronic system, many more businesses are going cash only everyday.

IIRC, Steak and Shake is a franchise, which would explain the different methods of payment acceptance.

When I worked in fast foods for Disneyland, we were constantly doing cash drops for "Bank of Disney" cause the thought of being robbed.

I travel a lot for my job and I am in a lot of different cities. What I have found is, taking plastic with most restaurants is an individual market decision. I noticed that the mid to larger progressive cities tend to have more restaurants that take credit cards (including fast food places).

Sure would like to see Stake & Shake expand off the east coast. Good stuff.

Pardon to the mid easters who object to being classified as east coast, but come on.. look at a map.

Talk about embarrasement like that.. well, we went to this Taiwanese restaurant and it's pretty expensive. We didn't see the CASH ONLY sign they had. It was blocked by a bunch of plants. Let's just say our bill was around $300. Luckily, my bank's ATM is about 2 minutes walk from the restaurant. So, while my friends were still eating I snuck out and went to the ATM. Jebus, I don't understand how a restaurant that know people will rake up that kind of tap doesn't take CC. Needless to say, I never went back to that restaurant after. I still walk by their sometime and that CASH ONLY sign is still there!
