No, you see, because S&P is a solid and A1 is a liquid so one is clearly an enhancement while the other is nothing but a cover up of the entire steak and...

Oh, wait, that's bullshit.

Yeah you guys have no idea what you're talking about. FFS do you guys have your steaks well done too?

There's a reason they serve A1 with your steak at Sizzler and not at Mortons.

In my ignorant youth I put steak sauce on my steaks. It seemed logical "It's sauce for steaks, right?" A1 was my preferred sauce.

Now it's salt and fresh ground pepper before it hits the grill and absolutely nothing afterward.
I think the salt helps the meat retain moisture and truthfully I can't taste it after it's grilled.

Steak sauce has no business on a properly seasoned and well cooked steak.

If it's a rib eye or prime I use sea salt and fresh ground pepper and baste it with a little butter on the grill.

If its a cheaper cut I will use steak seasoning of different varieties.

You do realize steak sauce is just another seasoning, right? You must suck at cooking steak if you need to add your salt and pepper "seasoning". Who gives a crap what anyone puts on their steak?

Salt/pepper = enhance.

Sauce = cover up.

if you can't grasp this concept then there is no point discussing the matter any further.

I grasp it perfectly well, you suck at cooking steak and need to enhance it! :D

Sauce, salt or pepper, it all enhances what your eating. And it all covers it up.

Probably the same people who vehemently bash restaurants and headphones/sound systems that aren't $5000. Quite a bit of elitism on here it seems.
OMG EPIC FAIL BAN!!!!

You have to use ONLY kosher salt and pepper, otherwise it is is a complete piece of shit steak.

edit: Has to be fresh ground pepper. Only losers use that regular stuff.

No, clearly there is a difference, and if you can't comprehend this, it is probably because your taste buds have been destroyed by that shitty ass A1 sauce.

If the steak is really good, I wouldn't use any steak sauce, especially with filet mignon.

pssh, you're all heathens. Everyone knows the only way to season a well cooked steak is with salt from the dried tears of a team of specially harvested vegans as they've watched the cow you're consuming murdered in a contrived and hilarious manner involving 13 pink golf balls and the surviving cast and crew of "Happy Days". Also, Torgo's executive powder.

Having said that, I don't really like the taste of A1, especially with beef. Frankie and Johnnys makes a darn tasty sauce, however, that complements the flavor of beef really well. It's all about how much of what goes in your gullet.

My father would say that steak sauce is for people who don't like steak... I have to agree.

I use steak sauce for burgers. When I eat a steak it's a great steak that requires no dressing. No blue cheese, steak sauce, or even poivre sauce which isn't bad. I wouldn't cover a great aged steak with 25 cents worth of sauce that completely drowns out the reason I am paying $40 for that prime porterhouse over a $10 hanger steak. Just like I wouldn't deep fry sushi grade salmon or tuna...

You eat at TGIFridays.

And? I also eat at Donovans & Napa 29, Napa 29 has one of the best steaks I've eaten on the West Coast. My favorite there has a 5 Peppercorn glaze on it, which would be I suppose like a fancy "sauce"

Sorry I'm not rich enough to eat at Mortons every time I go out, do I like TGIF? yes, they have better Appetizers than any steakhouse I've been to, and they have a pretty decent Flat Iron Steak.

I'm not a food snob, if something tastes good from Dennys I will eat at Dennys, Mortons isn't the end all be all of dining.

I guess I would use it on something that resembles more shoe leather than anything else. There is a bottle up in the cupboard that has to be 15 years old.

Maybe, I better include it in our will.

Steak sauce is for people who don't like steak? Ok.

duragezic, you forgot something about the fresh ground pepper. It has to be harvested from the Piper nigrum vine you grew yourself (bonus points if you get the kosher salt from your personal small rock salt deposit).

I don't care if a person bastardizes their steak, I'm just letting them know that they're bastardizing their steak.

Look, if I want to take a t-bone, cut a hole in it, and bone it, I expect you to keep your damn mouth shut unless you plan on eating it!

Nah, I'm gonna tell you "that's sacrilegious" and then let you eat your bastardized steak. I'm gonna tell you the same thing if you eat fusion sushi rolls. I'm an elitist food snob and I don't give a fuck.

:)

Elitist.
