Steak 'n Shake

Omg, I just went and got me an oreo shake... I feel like my arteries have clogged up, they really load this thing up with cream. I'm sorta feeling light headed too. I don't think i'll be getting anymore of their shakes...

Every one of those places went out of business in my area. Way too expensive for what you can get elsewhere.

yeah they are really expensive. We went and i was not impressed. $4 for a hamburger that was tiny. I can go to the local bar and get a huge cheesburger with fries for $4.

Steak N Shake is the best. Great food, yes it is a little more expensive but you get what you pay for. Their shakes are the best.

Franchise, I think. Based mostly in the midwest, but has a few stores down south.

Edit: The secret to eating very cheaply at S'nS is their cupons that you get in the mail. They don't even take them when used so you can keep on using them.

Went to one that was near a hotel I was staying in late one night. It was the scaryiest eating experience I've ever had.
The kitchen was filthy, and the "cook's" prep habits were abominable. They laid the meat for the sandwhich I ordered directly on the surface of the counter. I said "Don't use that on mine, thank you". Continued to have to supervise so as not to eat contaminated food.I left, came back the next morning to speak to the manager. Found out they were on 12 hour shifts and that manager was there when it happened but "Couldn't stop what she was doing" to come deal with the dirty cook when I asked for her earlier.
Kitchen looked as if they had wiped the grease ON everything. :disgust:
Kinda put me off on them while traveling.

The one in Gainesville is REALLY clean. I don't think they get enough business to be dirty. I guess it just depends on location.

Yea, I have been to a couple bad ones myself. There are a couple near me that are very good and clean so I stick to them.

The one on SW 13th or Archer? Both are pretty good, but the 13th street one has a bad reputation because the shift staff was killed one night during a robery

Not only are they expensive, but their "steakburgers" just don't taste right. On the other hand they make some really nice melts (but they're way too unhealthy for me to eat anymore).

frisco melt > you.

it's pretty good food for when you're coming back from a party (drunk) or after a concert (2-3 in morning)

which is usually when i go..

located right in center of college campus.

I Love the frisco melt! Banana shake or lime freeze is what I usually get. A lil expensive, but there are usually tons of coupons in the newspapers and what not, so it's actually not too bad. Great for late night snacking when I'm out in the Chicago burbs.

There is a steak'n'shake by my school. A few blocks down is the Courtesy Diner.

The Diner is this old school (I feel like its the 50's) diner place, a little dirty, definatly greasy, questionable music (Stroke it!), but great, great food and shakes. Completely annihilates S'N'S. And is way cheap.

You can't eat there often, though, or else you will die.
