Man, I was looking at some receipts I found for old system builds, and with the exception of my AMD processor, none of the companies are even around any more!!!

I had a Diamond video card, an STB Voodoo2, a Soyo motherboard . . . none of them anywhere to be found.

Kind of understandable I guess; the Diamond had an Nvidia chipset (V330 w00t! ;)), and now Nvidia makes their own boards. 3dfx is no more so board manufacturers like STB were kind of on the outs . . . I don't know about Soyo, though.

Soyo is still alive and well. Since when does nvidia make their own boards? They sell the chips to companies like PNY, Gainward, Evga, etc...

Doh, you're right, I was thinking of what 3dfx did during it's death knell.

from what i remember diamond got bought by s3 and decided to make their own boards or something. bad idea. diamond stuff was half decent back in the day. yea nvidia doesn't make boards, just chips. 3dfx is the one that fuxored and decided tomake their own boards with stb. that sunk em. probably also hurt diamond who made lotsa 3dfx stuff.

Correction: will be out of buisness soon. S3 is in Chapter 7, and is selling off its components(Rio division, ReplayTV division, etc) to pay off its debt before shutting its doors.

Appropriate that ViRGE would be in this thread. :D

Hey, the proprietary GL that card had goin was pretty damn sweet for the time. Terminal Velocity and Descent II ruled on a 4MB PCI card. :)

mtv yo!

really i'm just using the term "RIAA" as a generic term to cover the whole of hollywood, including, but not limited to, music, movies, and television, much as someone might say "kleenex" when asking for a facial tissue.
