I currently have a GeForce 6800 for my video card, but I'm building a new machine. I figure that I should just keep this card and not bother getting a PCI-e capable motherboard. I'm buying a San Dieg 3700+, will I lose any performance (other than for the video card) by not buying one of the newer motherboards?

For example what does A8V Deluxe have over A8N-E

I know the latter has the nVidia nforce 4 ultra chip on it, what exactly does this do? Is it only for graphic enhancements or does it do something more?

NF4 overclocks better, that's it, and it has PCIe, other than that S754 is fine. I would keep the 6800 and just get a nice S754 mobo and use it for a while - it's what i'm doing.

MSI K8N NEO2 Platinum
ABIT AV8

Check prices, both vg boards für AGP, the abit is w/o acitve cooling :).

e: the Asus is good too, but my opinion bout Asus quality is that they are trouble-makers thatswhy i tend not to suggest them. Other ppl may have different oppinions.

For instance i replaced my Biostar NF3 250GB with a DFI so that i could get a considerable overclock that is just about as fast as any NF4 setup with PCIe. I got the DFI LanParty UT NF3 250GB. Biostar had no access to multiplers :). I still have it though and will probebly just move it ot teh budget rig eventually. Also, if G70-R520 is availible in AGP i won't go to NF4 anytime soon. Single AGP card is just fine with me.
