Staying logged into a site in Firefox even after I close a window?

Is there a way to automatically log into a site even if it doesn't offer a way to do so? That is, is there a way to close the browser window, but have it save the cookie that emulates that it's still logged in? Or if I were to go back to the page, it can simulate the login process for me?
