while it's very difficult not to have strong feelings against the "rebels" with this whole thing, let's be careful not to trust just a single side when so much is at stake and the whole thing is being explored politically

"According to government officials, the rebels also removed debris and 38 bodies from the scene as part of an attempt to cover up what happened, and money, jewelry and other items had been looted from the dead. They urged relatives to cancel the credit cards of victims.

Borodai, the rebel leader who calls himself the prime minister of the self-styled Donetsk People's Republic, denied that his forces removed any bodies.

"There is even a house where a body fell, the landlord asked us to remove, and we haven't because we are not allowed to move anything," he said.

A CNN crew at the scene Saturday said it did not see any signs of looting or the rebels rummaging through items at the crash site."

Well there you have it. No one was looting while a media crew was present to observe.

Case settled.

The debris area is huge, you are going to have a range of characters, just sort of depends whose yard a corpse lands in. In any case, Ukraine is notorious for credit card fraud. Russia too. So it doesn't surprise me.

Actually I want to respond to this article again, just because.

You highlight that line above as your grand take-away of the article, when the very first sentence was this?
Nobody knows how many bodies from the Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 crash have been moved, where they were taken or exactly who moved them, the spokesman for a group of international observers told CNN on Saturday.

The article specifically talks about unaccounted for bodies picked up and moved, but since a CNN crew didn't witness it, that's the doubt you cast?

The people in the region are as poor as shit and living in horrendous conditions thanks to the war Russia is fighting inside the country. Of course there are some who will use the opportunity to take what they can to feed themselves and their families. They can't exactly take their Ukrainian EBT card down to the local store and get free stuff on a regular schedule like Americans do.

Considering where the crash site is located. Control of the crash site is going to be horrible. Realistically probably a 3rd party force needs to be moved in to secure the site that isn't Ukrainian or Russian Separatists. However Russia would probably have a fit about it.

Fury over reporter's insensitivity at crash site
In a live broadcast, presenter Colin Brazier was shown picking items – including a set of keys and a toothbrush – out of the open luggage before saying: ‘We really shouldn’t be doing this, I suppose.’

Amid growing anger over the desecration of the crash site and allegations of looting by pro-Russian rebels, Brazier’s actions sparked a furious response on social media.

Ukrainians allegedly going through luggage?

Who do they think they are?

Western TV reporters?

Given where this happened and the lack of control over the site this doesn't surprise me. I would also hazard to guess that jewelry, phones etc have also been looted

Clearly, this is a Russian problem. Looting after a crash would never happen in America. Our poor know their place and are respectful!

Some in the U.S. would do it too. However, the risk/reward ratio is so much different than for a person in Ukraine, the Ukrainian has a far greater reward, and you can take your pick whether the risk is greater or less in Ukraine... my guess is less risky.

I'm not saying no American's would do it but the NTSB locks that shit down and categorizes\tags everything. A tad less chance of looting by the NTSB than by rebels and random civilians
