Usually such a problem is caused by a bad ground to the case, maybe to the front bezel if it's metal. Try grounding a black molex wire directly to the case.....find a open screw hole somewhere like an unused MB screw-hole.

Also check your outlet - an outlet tester is usually under $5.00 at your local discount hardware, big box home center, etc. They have been on sale here for under $2.00 on occasion so check your Sunday circulars and you know when your local hardware stores run circulars - one of ours runs on Monday and another comes with a local Shopper in the mail on monday or tuesday. A properly grounded outlet is a must for a computer to drain off static and keep it from sensitive components.

Here is a link to a page with a line art graphic of one and a link to a photo so you'll know what you're looking for: outlet tester perhaps you already have one - no home should be without.

I did something similar several years ago. It turns out it was the HS's fan speed selector grounding out on the chassis.

Actually, Jedi, your sig screed pertains to all stripes of socialist, not just Bush who has proven to be nearly as wacko as any Democrat... All he has going for him is that there hasn't been another attack on our soil since 9/11. Socialism requires perfect people to function - who defines perfect? Do you know any (perfect people, that is)? I know I don't.

Sorry for the OT - Jedi made me...

Jedi....it's one/all of the black wires from the PSU that is in a hard drive connector. These black wires are the ground to the power supply. They ground the mother board when you plug the PSU main connector to the board connector. When you screw the board to the computer case, the case is supposed to get grounded. Sometimes it doesn't.

You could splice (or attach) any of these black wires to the case....only one is necessary usually. If your front bezel is metal, it also might need a separate ground wire. This is elementary electrical stuff, but necessary knowledge when trouble-shooting computer problems.

There's no guarantee this will fix your problem....but it won't hurt anything.

Oh....why don't you put up a running count of dead terrorists. Much more interesting. :frown:

Note that I said it was OT, just a comment on his sig. I helped out higher up the thread. Somehow you missed that, eh?
