Static IP router problem

Today my ISP assigned me a static IP. I still have a dynamic IP that works fine. I first decided to connect my laptop directly to the internet (not through router) and configured the settings from the information my ISP gave me. I then logged in through the ISP logon page. I then proceeded to whatismyip.com to see that my IP had changed.

Next, I hooked the internet into the router. Typed in the static ip, 2 dns servers and gateway. Clicked apply and the router rebooted. I connected to the router through my laptop wirelessly. Immediately I recieved a dns error but went ahead and tried to login. The ISP output "You are already logged in on 172.24.6.x and MAC address: **, but you can continue to relogin anyways on the this connection "172.24.11.*" on mac address "same address" , you should disconnect the device and login." I click "Continue to login" then it says "Establishing internet connection", left it for 5 minutes and no change. Then I would try to access a webpage and I'd be sent back to the login.

I've tried changing the router's MAC Address and didn't work so I reset my settings and I'm back on the dynamic IP for now. I think the problem persists in LAN's DHCP server. I tried changing the router's DHCP Range from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.100. Everything on the router is reset at the moment.

Any suggestions?
Thanks

Can you post a screenshot of the error you're receiving, obviously go ahead and white-out any sensitive information. Did you change the IP in your post for safety reasons? I only ask because 172.24.x.x is also private address space. Did you also reset your laptop to DHCP instead of statically assigning it?
