static in my audio

okay, here's the problem.....
i recently formatted my hard drive, and only now got around to installing the drivers and software for my tv-tuner. now, when i plug the line-out from the tuner to the line-in my audio gets a background hiss.
i get the same effect when i leave the tuner unplugged and turn up the volume on my line-in, but it is usually intermittent
i think it might be drivers, but i can't download them at home because i have @&%! dialup...won't be able to get them for a few days....could this be my problem?

Recently there have been a few posts on this issue... regarding buzzing/hissing out of various speaker setups. Almost always it is the result of a tangled mess of cords & wires around the PC and any other stuff you have plugged in around your geek area.

My advice would be to arrange your cords and to see if the sound persists or becomes less prevalent.

edit: also make sure it isn't interference from another device ie. TV

Make sure the cable where it comes into the house is properly grounded
