so i guess my M-Audio LX4's aren't magnetically shielded. when i have my phone near it sending or receiving phone calls i'd get static from my speakers

is this bad for the speaker in the long run? or must i not allow my phone to be near my speaker?

This has nothing to do with being magnetically shielded. Speakers that are magnetically shielded are shielded to prevent their own magnetic field from interfering with other devices. The issue you are having is the opposite.

This is usually because the 3.5mm cable going to the speakers is not shielded....or very minimally. Because the amplifier is AFTER this wire, anything induced into it will be amplfied further. This is why its audible in powered speakers but not typically in a common HT setup.

This won't likely damage the speakers as it is too small of a signal to cause any sort of waveform to damage the speaker. However, if it annoys you, you can try to find shielded 3.5mm cables. It is tough to find them cheap however as the typical ones that you see are not shielded.

oh where should i keep my phone the farther away from? the speakers themselves?, the 3.5mm connector into my audigy2 on the back of my PC, or the 3.5mm cable connecting the audigy 2 to the subwoofer (where the amp for the speakers are)?

thanks for the education

As I said, don't worry about it, it won't cause any harm to your speakers. If you don't want to hear that sound the farther from the 3.5mm cable the better.

Seems to be a problem with GSM phones. Simpliest solution is to keep your phone farther away from the 3.5 cable coming from the sound card to the sub.
