Static discharge?

Tonight when I my very static-y laundry bag rubbed against the front metal grill of my subwoofer I heard a thump/pop come from it, I'm assuming from slight static discharge or something. If this happened from touching the front outside grill of the sub that is not connected to the inside, how did it make it thump/pop? And could something that slight damage the sub at all? It still sounds okay.

I wouldn't worry too much. When I key the mic on my marine band radio in my truck when I forget to turn off the amp, it goes WHUMP....I try to avoid that but I still forget sometimes.

static charges are usually very high voltage and can travel far and induce voltages easily across insulators. and discharges themselves can send em waves that get picked up by various circuits. anyway if there's no change in sound then I'm sure it's fine.

Meh I think you'd know if there was any damage to it. Most electrical parts are built to withstand a decent amount of sudden electric discharge anymore these days.

Now taking my big winter coat off is another story-- could power a city with the amount of static that thing builds up. Nearly fries my hand everytime I go to discharge it.
