Hey guys I'm trying to fix my brothers computer and here is the problem. He has a pretty fast computer 1.4ghz, 256 megs ddr, 16x lite-on but every time i burn a cd it comes out as a coaster. Either nothing reads the cd or its the music is choppy and full of static. Any ideas?

Are you burning from Wav files or MP3? Are you burning "on-the-fly"? At what speed? A few more details would be necessary in order for us to help you...😱

Well, DON'T burn on the fly.

Rip the CDs to the HD first, then burn at a lower speed (no higher than 4x)

It amazes me to see people burning stuff like you do - that's not music... it's full of errors. No audiophile would seriously consider burning at high speeds and on the fly. And by the way, turn the MP3s into Wav files first using Winamp, don't let the burning software do that for you...

Huh. I never had a problem burning on-the-fly as described. I only notice that it skips a bit more in my car cd player when I burn at 12x vs 2x. Oh well, I have an mp3 changer now, no need for conversion😀
