Ok, sorry I am familiar with the Austin area. I had been to Dallas and Houston many times but was to young to notice any tolls.
houston has beltway 8, which is mostly toll (except for the part between 45 and 59 since that feeds IAH). also have the hardy (roughly parallel to 45 north) and the westpark (runs straight west from where 59 bends southwest; it's also the first all ez-tag toll road in the US). there is also a toll road in ft bend county from beltway 8 out to highway 6 somewhere. and, when the katy freeway gets rebuilt, some of the 'managed use' lanes in the middle will be ez-tag only toll.

Thanks for the information and pardon my ignorance on the matter. Houston and Dallas are both great cities but I would not move there. Austin is my home.

Guess you haven't been back to Texas for a while.
Not speaking for the whole state but Houston has the worst road condition of any city I've ever been to.
Maybe they need to collect more taxes to fix the roads.

In fairness to Virginia, they are lowering the tax on grocery foods to I think 2.5% soon. Thats a considerable savings when you figure out how much you spend on groceries over the year.

Or the crackpots in Austin need to stop coming up with crackpot ideas that are wastes of money.

But yes they are going to improve the transportation infustructure, not by raising taxes though. The tax hikes they are proposing are to fund education.
