<<Next time you drive, count how many SUVs you see hauling cargo or even more than the driver around. If SUVs are going to be advertised by the car companies as substitutes for passenger cars then they should all be required to meet strict crash, emmission and fuel consumption regulations. >>

Uhhhhh.... you think insurance companies would reduce the rates on them if they were death traps? Insurance companies aren't in the business of throwing away money.

I went from driving a '95 mercury Mystique with 53,000 miles and a 5spd, to a 2000 GMC Jimmy 4x4 sport package.

Guess what. My insurance jumped a whopping $60 a year.

A VW GTI w/ the 1.8t that cost $5,000 less would have upped my insurance by more than $600 a year.

Go figure

holy Sh*t i can't believe that! i'm boycotting state farm if this is indeed true.

hah! have you seen their latest commercial? it's about how they "care for your wellbeing" and since statistics show that young guys with fast cars tend to get in accidents more, they pretty much won't insure those people. then they turn around and do this? they can go to hell.

if i ever get hit by a SUV, it's surely going to do a lot more damage to my car and my person than to them. so i plan on sueing the owner of the vehicle and the SUV manufacturers. in this stupid country i'll surely win.

man, the falsehoods perpetuated by you pro-SUV people in this thread is astounding. let me just say this: sure, you have the right to choose what you want to buy. but that sure doesn't make it a smart decision.

also "Uh oh, Doggiedog is jealous. Just because you drive a pink Geo Metro doesn't make you less of a man.

Oh wait a minute, yes it does."

this proves the point about SUV drivers having an "i'm tougher than you" attitude.

edit cause i'm an idiot. please discount everything i've ever said.

cablegod,

Get started on State Farm, cause I want to hear what you are so boiled about.

And don`t get your panties in a knot just cause you READ something in a newspaper. Ever read the "corrections" section in a newspaper?

ravin,

What F-ing company doesn`t want your money? It's HOW they get it, not HOW much they get. State Farm cares about it's customers, if it didn`t it wouldn`t be still around and this strong.

Your telling me that if you started a company you would just want to break even? Sfack Off.

Good, why don't you try to go get in an accident right now so you can sue them in this stupid country.

Better yet, have yourself die in the accident so your family can sue and make more money in this stupid country.

Stupid idiot.

I have to agree with some that this is a marketing ploy by State Farm. It made the front page of the Dallas Morning News as well, and the newspaper was quick to point out how much this would benefit Texans. It's only $50 per year. Whoppiedoo. State Farm also told me after my 3rd wreck in 6 months on Sat. night (one was my fault, another I was hit from behind, and this last one is under dispute) that I can't have another accident, no matters whose fault, or that they would drop me from the coverage and refund my remaining $. Considering I'm listed as a secondary driver on the car, and paying very little insurance for a 16 year old driving a sports car, I'm a little worried. I hope they don't screw me over.

what the F*CK is your problem, balt? leave your unintelligent name calling in the newsgroups. no, nevermind. i'm not getting into a masturbatorial flame war, because does anyone else want to read that? NO. does anyone ever win? NO. nothing i say is going to change the minds of SUV drivers, no matter how misguided they are.

erub,

Take a decent driver training course. Most accidents are avoidable, dude.

Three accidents in six months? Any insurance company would mark you down as a huge risk!

Balt, you've got that typical SUV attitude. Its always me me me. The crash regulations I am speaking about are not about the SUV's crashworthiness but the damage SUVs cause to passenger cars because they are exempt from having standard height bumpers. The only SUV that I am sure has standard height bumpers is the MB M320. The mismatch in bumper height is likely to cause an SUV to be sitting in your lap in a normal car if you're involved in a head on collision versus spreading out the impact energy if you were driving with standard height bumpers.

Why can't SUV manufacturers all follow the same guidelines and emmisions regulations if they are to be used in the same manner as passenger cars?

DoggieDog,

NEWFLASH. I drive a Nissan Maxima. The reason SUV's don't have to meet those standards is because they are NOT cars. Remember? Would you have 18-wheeler meet those requirements as well? Whether or not they carry passengers is irrelevant. They are a different height and weight class.

<<what the F*CK is your problem, balt?>>

Triumph, my problem is ungrateful a$$holes who just b!tch about this 'stupid country'. You think there aren't bigger problems in the world than SUV's and the people who constantly whine about them? Just be glad you live in this 'stupid country' or leave it and make room for someone else who be GLAD to live here.

Makes me sick that people are priveleged enough to live here and just constantly dis it like it should be exactly the way they want it.

Of course you have the right to b!tch all you want, and I have the right to call you an ungrateful a$$ for it.

Of course there are bigger problems. Suv's do contribute to these problems though. They suck up gas (precious resource) at insane rates, which increases our dependence on foreign oil. Thats pretty bad already, but they obviously spew out more pollution, more bad. They also increase traffic accident deaths, no good either. I don't mind people in rural areas using them, but soccer moms in the suburbs driving suvs is unresponsible.

Not wasting or not contributing to harmful things is patriotic no?

You know what I'm tired of people saying that just because I drive an SUV I think I'm better than them or something. I don't think that at all. I got an SUV because I like the looks of one better than a van or a station wagon and that when I have children (probably in the next 2 or 3 years) they will be safer inside of it if we are in a collision rather than some little Jap trap (as my fiance calls them). I also have a lot of junk that I haul around that a normal car couldnt hold. No matter how often I clean out the back there is always something else that needs hauling. Not to mention that out of all of my fiance and mines vehicles its the only one that will pull our boat. You try pulling a 22' 3500 lb boat with a regular car and see how well you do. My Explorer fits my life style and the lifestyle I want. I'm sorry if you guys have a problem with that. But I'm a darned good driver and very safe. I personally avoided 3 accidents in the holiday traffic this past week. and I havent had a ticket since I was a teenager (that was back when I had a mustang) I drive alot better now in my SUV than I did back then let me tell you. I'm also very aware of what damage my truck might do to a smaller car which is why I always keep a safe distance back, yet it never ceases to amaze me by all the stupid drivers in little bitty cars that will pull right out in front on you and then slow down or stop with no warning. I'm not saying all owners of little cars are stupid ... just ones that will jump in front of a large vehicle and then slam on the breaks. We all have our pet peeves.

Your opinion of small cars mirrors mine of SUVs. I just hate it when I start getting tailed by an SUV because I know my car can stop on a dime but an SUV? Forget it I'll get rear-ended. I have no problems with people doing what you need to do but damn I wish some people would learn how to drive (small car drivers included).

I'm glad at least one of you has the sense to know a large vehicle usually takes longer to stop than a small vehicle. A lot of soccer moms don't seem to know that.
