Anyone use this? I drive about <5,000 miles/year. Deciding if paying like $8/month after the 12 month promo is worth it to get car insurance discounts.
Monthly is $77.

Similar offer from Progressive but they only take a snapshot of your driving habit for 30 days. Device is not left on the vehicle after that...

Yeah, I used it for a while. It's not worth it if you have a great driving record. The devices are a pain in the ass, the battery doesn't last very long, and the tech support at In Drive is clueless. I had a lot of problems with it and, frankly, a few dollars per month off of my car insurance just wasn't worth it. I had it on a car that I drive 70-100 miles per year and I still got rid of it. Also, after the first year, it's $6/month per car, which made it completely not worthwhile to me because that's almost what I was saving.

I guess the cost may have risen to $8 per month... ouch. IIRC, my car insurance for my very low mileage car is $150/year and In Drive was saving me $72/year. That's great until you have to pay for it, which makes the savings -$24/year. I wouldn't mind paying $24/year for something that added value to my life, but In Drive features didn't add any value to my life. The cost analysis looked similar for my daily drivers that cost $550/year (2014s with full coverage/no deductible/etc.)

FWIW, the people at my State Farm office said I'd be back to return it even though I was sure at the time that I wouldn't be. I didn't even make it 6 months.

Yeah, no. There's an insurance company here offering something similar. I don't drive like an asshole but I find something like this a bit too invasive just to save few bucks on insurance.

I don't need a tinfoil hate to leave my house, so this reasoning doesn't apply to me at all.

My insurance agent told us not to get it. i was thinking about it while in his office paying. he said it didn't work very well and i wouldn't save much if anything.

It's just a way to keep track of you in case of a accident.

I understand that its cheaper.

But if you do get into an accident, under US Discovery Laws, the other person's attorney will be able to obtain all of the driving information recorded by that device since you started using it.

Its your call. But until there is a law that says I have to use it, I won't.
