Found this map, looks interesting. I wonder why Nevada, Utah, and Idaho did so well.

Michigan, of course is the only state with a Net loss. Interesing as it was the only place I could get a job in 2004. Good thing I'm not into manufacturing.

Look at Georgia and Alabama.

What huge job gains do they expect there? They building a ton more Churches???

Remember that lower population states take less jobs created to boost percentage. So keep that in mind as well.

Nice to see growth is favoring the whole country...not just red or blue states.

It's a percentage.
Shouldn't matter.

The more populous states technically should have higher unemployment...cuz it's a percent right?

Still looking for a correlation between the top states and the low ones. Cant really find any, except the reason Ohio and Michigan both sucked is due to auto manufacturing. But thats not the case everywhere, as Wisconsins nice gain was due to manufacturing.

I'm guessing NV was red hot due to Vegas, which is recession proof. Idaho and Utah, not a clue.

I don't think that's the point. I think the point was that it takes less to of a change to make a larger percentage shift.

Anyway, my reaction is that the red states Train mentioned are growing independent of being red. Most blue states are already well populated. So it's more likely some hobunk empty blue states will see growth.

I saw a report a while back that says that Utah has a large population of illegal mexican workers. Cheap laborers allows more people to be employed.

lol,

Dave, with his finger on the pulse of the Southern economy, masterfully reveals the truth behind the above average growth in Alabama and Georgia; Churches! Who'da thunk it?

The wall Street Journal Should hire him as an analyst.

Nice to see things improving. We added 2.2 million jobs in 2004 and 150,000 jobs are being created each month.

I don't know about a correlation with unemployment rate and new jobs (although obdviously places that are getting new obs will have fewer unemplyed, and those lsing jobs will have more unemployed), but I do see a correlation between population growth and job growth. The northeast and northern plains have fairly stagnent populations, and thats where most of the yellow is.

Almost enough jobs to keep up with population growth

Here in Ohio, the politicians have an easy explanation for why this state has bad job growth from year to year: "People don't want to live in places with cold weather. All the growth is in the South."

But nearby Indiana always seems to have decent job growth. And the entire state of Wisconsin is further North than Ohio and also tends to have better job + population growth from year to year than Ohio.

He knows his numbers are meanlingless but like a good parrot, he keeps repeating them.

U.S. corporations accelerated their job cuts in December, bringing the total number of announced job reductions to more than 1 million for the fourth straight year. Payrolls have been reduced by over 100K workers for the last 4 months and January looks to make it 5 when the numbers come in. Things are great.

I'd be interested to see if these jobs are not gravy sucking big govt jobs.
Would be quite ironic. Creating a social safety net for people who don't believe in it.
