Just like I expected ToR to be WoW with Star Wars skins (which in all honesty it was), I expect Battlefront to be BF4 with Star wars skins...and I don't have a problem with that.

Galactic Conquest was one of the best Star Wars experiences I've had.

I'm really hoping this is true and it doesn't turn into something more arcady like titanfall.

Old news and honestly if you can't uncheck the box that sends reports to EA there's no hope.

Here is what else I found so far. Now I have never used the software so I do not know that much about the settings. Can you opt out of the software scans or can you only do that crap for the hardware?

There are two check boxes, and one for crash reports. One says Hardware information, one is system interaction data (this is the one that sends info on what apps you've run). The crash reports I have it ask before sending anything.

Well ok then. I have not had it explained to me so far. Since I have not yet died from not using Origin I have not given that much attention to the question of if Origin is safe or how much if any privacy violations there actually are or were.

Might consider it now.

Thankyou.

Thing is, there's some games from EA I had to play and wouldn't miss. So Origin was necessary.

Yea after playing Mass Effect 1 & 2 on steam, I hated having to go to origin for ME3. But I did what I had to.

Yeah, it was nice having everything in Steam but now I have Origin, Ubisoft, Steam and now Rockstar Social Club clients to launch games. In the end its not that big of a deal.

IMO, of all those you listed Origin is the best of the bunch. Faster downloads, more user friendly, less bloated, and best of all you can easily speak to someone by phone if you ever do have an issue.

Ive been using Origin ever since it was required to play the Battlefield series (BFBC2 I think) and have not yet died from using it. ;)

When it was first required I hated the idea of it, same went for Steam when it was required for games I wanted to play. I just hate the whole DRM concept of both platforms but that's the way it is so I guess I gotta deal with it if I wanna play. But so far it has worked out really well and like I said above, I now prefer it over Steam.

In its early days, I had a lot of issues with Steam, and their customer service was atrocious. The last few years I have had no problems with Steam, and Origin neither for that matter. I have to say though, that I find it extremely annoying that every time you launch Steam it has to pause while it goes through that stupid checking for updates.

Actually the only client I have had problems with was battle.net. Several times they have locked my account and accused me of trying to sell the game. I have no idea why they thought this, because the first time it happened, I hadnt even signed into the account for several months. All I can think of is that my grandson had the same account on his laptop, and moved to another state. I did not think he was using the account, but maybe he tried to sign in and they got 2 widely divergent ip addresses.

Edit: Back on topic, I have seen the battlefront trailers, and they look good, but I am not sure it is a game for me. I would be interested in a good single player campaign, but it does look like just Battlefield xx with a star wars skin. I am older and dont really have the skills (or interest either) for another online vehicle based shooter.

Now if they would only make a single player star wars RPG *sigh*.

I dislike battlelog more than Origin, but even that doesnt really bother me anymore. One thing with Origin is that when you do file verification it usually results in downloading the whole game again if a file fails. Or maybe thats Ubisoft, or maybe both. Steam seems to be more reliable in downloading and patching, and things like achievements and Steam community are well established.

At first launching a game from a browser seemed idiotic to me, but now I've come to love Battlelog. I simply open Battlelog from my bookmarks, pick a BF server, and am playing a game in no time flat. Since doing this automatically opens and logs me in, I rarely even look at Origin itself other than to close it off my desktop once Im done gaming. Oh and the friends list and plethora of stats on battlelog are awesome!

Like Frozentundra mentioned above, I too had several issues with Steam early on and one time in particular had me locked out of my games for several weeks, which was rather enraging to me to say the least. Ive not had any real problems with Steam in the past few years other than some annoyances like games not working after copying and moving game files to other drives, Origin on the other hand handles this with ease.

Going back to this comment...

Just wanted to throw this in...

There's [understandably] quite a Star Wars fever lately (well, "lately" as in since the first teaser came out, but of course since the past day or so now with the second teaser). I love the franchise, the universe, the characters and their respective story(ies). I also really like certain games (the majority of them aren't really good, but some do stand out from the crowd).

Now here's the thing, I never played the original Battlefront (but did hear about it at the time when it was relatively new). I did, however, became hyped for Battlefront II and bought it soon after its PC release. To my surprise, I liked it... BUT... for reasons that today completely elude me I never really "got into" it that much. I remember playing it maybe the equivalent of two weeks or so, pretty much every day. I mean it had its time (for me, it was short but I enjoyed it). However, it soon faded away from my interests (still now that I'm typing this I'm trying to remember just why that was but I can't recall, it might have been something else going on in my life at the time, or simply another more interesting game came out).

A few hours ago I decided to install it (well, had to actually search for the box first, got the retail version). The decision was impulsive but I was sort of bored (the irony of what unplanned activities on Fridays can do to me) so I thought "ok what the heck, why not". The first game mode I chose was Hero Assault, on Mos Eisley. That's * THE * game mode I do remember playing the most at the time (honestly though I didn't even remember that it was the case at all, until I saw the game mode again after install it). It's the whole Jedi Vs. Sith battle mode thing.

Well guess what... I don't say this type of thing often but holy shit I had a lot of fun. Now ok, granted, the fun in question didn't last that long. My attention span on certain types of games changed over the years (not that it decreased across the board for everything I play, but it just "changed", some games I used to play for hours now only draw me in for maybe 45 mins and I'm done even though I can still enjoy them). But my amusement out of it was genuine, didn't care One. Second. about the "aging" graphics, the music was awesome, the action was cool.

I mean... I guess that the whole point of this is if any of you guys right now sort of have a craving for Star Wars gaming that seemingly comes out of nowhere (or obviously comes out of the excitement generated by the second teaser of the next movie) and you do happen to own Battlefront 2, then do give it another go, even if it just lasts half an hour, that game still has it I'd say (and I'm saying it because I didn't think I'd enjoy it as much as I just did).

Yep. A million times, yep. Battlefront 2 was the only real shooter I really got into back in the day, and no shooter has really grabbed my attention since (I'm mainly an RPG and strategy game player). Like I said before, I spent hours and hours in Instant Action as a kid, loved every minute of it.

So all this news motivated me to reinstall Battlefront 2 on my PC, and it's still just as fun as I remember. There's a good variety of large, well-designed maps (Kamino is my favorite). The scale of action going on is impressive without being overwhelming. Combat feels smooth and fast-paced. Reducing battle droids to scrap metal is as viscerally satisfying as ever. It's always fun to take control of a Jedi and slice 'n dice your way through droid lines. The space battle mode may not be as fully realized as it could have been, but it's still fun and a welcome alternate mode from the ground battles.

And really? I think the graphics hold up for a late 6th console generation game. All the Star Wars atmosphere and effects are there. Plus, it natively supports 1080p widescreen, though it's clear some gun assets were created for 4:3 aspect ratio. The game feels as good as any modern game, not out of date at all. So I'm left thinking, do we really need a new Battlefront game? From what we've seen so far with news surrounding Battlefront...it's not going to be better than Battlefront 2. That both reflects well on how Battlefront 2 has stood the test of time, but also a little depressing. If the developers of the new Battlefront took the features of Battlefront 2 and added onto them rather than throwing most of it out to try to do their own thing, it could be truly great. But it looks like Battlefront may be the biggest missed opportunity of 2014.

Oh yeah I got Battlefront 1 & 2, I should go dig those out and reinstall them. I can't judge on the new Battlefront until I see actual gameplay, the trailer doesn't mean anything, but I have a gut feeling DICE is going to make that just as bad as Battlefield 4 in terms of stability and gameplay.

I dislike both Battlelog and Origin, and I noticed Origin robs unneeded resources like this.

"A select few who were present at the event in Anaheim have been able to check out gameplay behind closed doors. BattlefrontUpdates, a YouTube channel dedicated to the game, was present at the Star Wars Celebration event, and reported of watching actual Star Wars: Battlefront gameplay. He explains that he noticed no difference between the trailer and gameplay."

Most of you though, like me, will probably reserve judgement until you see actual gameplay.

Edit: After watching the trailer again a bit more in detail I'm thinking no way it's going to look like that in gameplay.

I think the difference is this trailer said something like contains actual in game elements vice others that say game engine used.so I'd expect the game to look more like the trailer.

Although I for some reason don't like how vader looks, has something odd to me.

Why does the Origin platform need 500 processes?

Looks like Steam is only using 5 processes on my computer right now.

Uhm, you are downloading an update. How is it using un-needed resources? Its downloading a ton of files and having to switch them out. Its entirely normal for it to use a fair amount of CPU.

Steam does the EXACT same thing. Download a big patch, use some CPU. I fail to see your issue with this.

And technically, steam runs plenty of scans on your machine as well. But nobody seems to complain about them doing it.

This is origin scanning for installed games that you have to add to your origin launcher. It searches ProgramData and Program Files. Origin is not the only application to do this. You can clearly see in the screenshot that these are mostly queries for files and directories. Stop acting as if they are doing some horrible thing.

Never do the "hardware surveys" as they go through your whole computer and send everything to Valve Corporation. What do they do without your "given permission" in the background?

So is this temporary or does Origin actually run all these processes all the time regardless of whether they are searching for installed programs or not?

I have only seen it happen when they check for updates (Which varies depending on if you have automatic updates enabled or not). It takes hardly any time on my machine at home. Probably depends on disk speed and how many things you have installed.

No, Steam does not eat up CPU resources while downloading.

And Steam won't do a thing if you opt out of hardware survey.
