i remember from Start > Run on windows XP, you can access everything that starts up when the pc boots. Does anyone know what to type in Run?

It's not quite everything, though. That lets you edit the entries that load from the registry. Other services are started before that, and you'd have to go through Computer Management-->Services to change those.
