startup repair

Hi Guys

My computer recently started acting weird. Suddenly it will not start (not physically, but software-ly). It would freeze before "Starting Windows" come on or just freeze there. I restart and window says i should launch start up repair. Ever since that first this happens really frequently. The first time it happened it removed or made changes to this one file and then my windows becomes inactivated. I then formatted my drive and reinstalled windows 7, but its happened again today and launch repair couldn't find out what the problem is.

Is there anything that I can upload here so you guys can see where the problem might be and how to fix it?

Your drive is probably on it's way out. Every once in a while a file system error is normal but repeated ones is a bad sign. Seatools from Seagate has a good bootable drive check program. Run the long test on it.

Well, after using seatool and did all the tests there were (except advance test) on my seagate and samsung spinpoint F1 drives and passed all of them, I had a thought that it might be the samsung's problem and unhooked it. Voila problem solved.

But that drive has all my precious movies and music storage on it. How can I find out what the problem is before sending it back and back up onto another media?

Put it in a plastic bag and then put it in the freezer for atleast a few hours. Take it out and imediately boot it up in the PC. You may get some time with it to get the files off.

ohh ok. I'll try to find a new drive so I can do that. Is that the only way to do it before letting samsung taking care of it? Thanks!

Now I did some research on the samsung F1 1tb harddrive and found out how sh*tty it is, I was wondering if I can, like matt1970 said, put it in a plastic bag and freezer, that'll give me some time to move 1tb worth of files away?

also, I unhooked the samsung and my computer was running fine until recently it has the same problem as when the samsung is still connected. could it be that my seagate drive is dying as well?

Lastly, is there any proper way to install these harddrives? I thought its just connecting the sata cable from the drive to the motherboard, but there are numbers like SATA 0 and SATA 1 stuff like that and they have different color notation on the motherboard. I use Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD3R.
