Starting working out

So, ive been living at college for the last week, and i decided to take advantage of the gym they have. I went yesterday, worked on my arms, legs, and abs, and today im quite sore. How often should i go to the gym to achieve optimal results? Should i work on my whole body in one session, or do say arms one day and legs the next? just looking for some advice from the ATOT gym goers

at your age if you are doing it properly 3 days of weights should be plenty. If you go an extra day only cardio should be necessary. as far as what type of routine....we'd probably need to know about what you look like and what your goals are.

Do a search. This has been discussed in depth before. As far as frequency, I've heard it's best not to exercise every day. You need to give your body time to recover.

yeah i'll check out that website KLin and i'll do some searches, im like.... 5'11" and i weight about 140 - 145 pounds, so Im a pretty thin kid, and my goals are to just bulk up a bit, and give myself some definition

Work out one area of your body/week (legs, abs, chest, back, arms) and do a weight that will allow you to reach failure in the 4-6 rep range (i.e. go heavy). Eat a meal high in protein directly after your workout. That's all you need to know.
