So, I am 6 feet tall and weight 195. I used to weigh 220 and have gotten down to 190 from doing low carb.

I have gained a few pounds back and I want to start losing again. I had a few questions though.

I want to do a mix of cardio and weightlifting, but I don't have time for a gym. I have a bar and weights. That's all I have access to. I also have a treadmill. Additionally, I have obtained a copy of Insanity from a buddy.

Is it safe to do both Insanity and weight training together? 3 days of insanity and 2 days of weight training?

How should I eat for this? I assume low carb won't offer enough energy and I would burn out.

What do you guys suggest?

Also, it is extremely hard for me to cook breakfast and pack lunch for work/school, so I would need some type of diet where I can eat fast food on occasion. Salads etc are fine.

If you like eggs, just bring a few inches of water to a boil while you do the rest of your morning routine. Crack some eggs and let them slip into the water, turn off the heat and cover, let it sit for 3 to 4 minutes and you've got poached eggs. It's super quick I swear. Cook things on the weekend that you can store in the fridge to take for lunches during the week

I don't see any problem w/ insanity + weights. If you are doing weights, you probably want to increase protein intake (same for muscle recovery after insanity as it gets pretty painful)...you can still keep the carbs low.

As for food on the run, I love pouches of salmon, protein bars, whole grain cereal w/ protein (like Kashi) that you can get dry. If you have a short day, you can even do a meal replacement shake and some fruit.

I think starting out while doing multiple things is a recipe for burn-out. I'd say choose one or the other at the beginning and find your groove. Get into a program consistently and see some basic gains/changes. Once you've done that, then you can customize your own program. In all honesty, Insanity on its own is fairly difficult, let alone in conjunction with a serious strength training program. Your body won't be able to recover from both. So I would honestly just choose one and ease your way into it.

Last time, I did insanity three times a week. I didn't really lose anything on the scale, but I know that I dropped fat and gained muscle, plus I was looking and feeling better.

If I do both, I am not going to do an intense strength training routine. It would be more of a 30 minute weights session at home, nothing too bad.

But, you may be right about burning out, which is the last thing I want to do. I think I''' start eating better for a few days, then start up Insanity again. I'll add the weights in if I feel I can handle it.

Do you have an iPhone? Try "Lose It!" It's a free calorie tracker that's easy to use, just put in your current weight, target weight, and how rapidly you want to lose. They will give you a daily calorie ceiling, and as you log the food you eat it will tell you how many calories you have left for the day.

Also, it is extremely hard for me to cook breakfast and pack lunch for work/school, so I would need some type of diet where I can eat fast food on occasion. Salads etc are fine.

You need to find healthy foods that are convenient, and get into a routine. Forget about the fast food. There's no reason that you can't eat it as long as you are diligent about logging the calories, but are you really going to want to log an 1800 calorie lunch?

Do you have access to a microwave at lunch? I just microwave a can of soup (280 calories), and have a little package of 2% cottage cheese (80 calories) and a little package of greek yogurt (160 calories) that's 520 calories and I don't have to measure a thing.
