Starting to play golf.

What kind of clubs do you recommend? I'm a total newbie except I've been to the driving range played a couple rounds. I'm looking for ~$300 for full set.

Any good sites to recommend on improving your form or correcting it?

Thanks.

No need to spend a lot on clubs. At this stage, it won't make a difference in your game.

For $200, you should be able to find a complete set w/bag at pretty much any sporting goods store, and then spend the extra $100 on lessons. 🙂

I was looking on ebay and saw some ping knock offs and callaway knock offs. They said that they're made from Pro Select. Are any of these any good?

I got few clubs at the range that were Pro Select. You might want to aim at something higher if you're going to spend $300.

Get a lesson. You can read a thousand golf magazines or websites and still suck. The only way you will get better is to take a lesson and practice.

actually a good set of clubs are great for someone like him. Getting a custom set is a good idea. there are clubs out there that will correct his swing and give him extra distance.

now is a good idea? heck no. why spend $400+ on a set of golf clubs for osmething he may not even enjoy.

just get yourself a $200 set of clubs and get some lessons. heck some driving ranges give free lessons once a week (at least the one near me does).

When I get some clubs and some more practice in, I'll let you know when I'm ready. But I'm game!

I'll play with you too!

I think my dad bought a starter set years ago that he's never touched, hah! Only time it's ever used is the rare occasion I go to a driving range.

I don't know what collects more dust, the golf clubs or my tennis racket. :frown:

I wouldn't get a set off Ebay. Go to the store and find a set you're comfortable with. Also if you want to save some money go to a used sporting goods store and they usually have a nice selection there of full used sets for cheap.

I'll second that.

As been said before, Get a decent cheap set of clubs and get lessons.
Lessons will improve your game a lot faster than anything else.

Costco.
I got a set of Spalding's with a bag for like $150 about 5 years ago.
I played pretty often until this past year.
The bag is cheap and crappy, but I still like the clubs. Graphite woods and metal irons.
I still see good deals on clubs there.

Any basic cavity-back clubs should do just fine for a beginning golfer. I would probably recommend you get them with a regular flex shaft to start out with until you get your swing grooved in a bit. I bought a set of Lynx Parallax irons a few years ago for $140 from a second-hand golf place and am still using them even though I'm playing to about a 15 handicap these days. Not broke: don't fix.

A good new started set would be Top Flites.
But if I were you I'd go to a golf store and purchase a set of brand-name clubs for about the same price, maybe Titleist Callaway or Mizuno, etc.
