Starting to get nippy out

I drove the thing maybe once or twice a month this summer. mostly weekends/autocrossing. I'm fairly certain it'll stay in the garage while I recondition it and get it ready for next year.

I suspect I won't take it out of the garage until next april, march if I'm lucky and the weather cooperates.

Should I remove the insurance on it? Renewal date is coming up next month.

I live in Chicagoland btw.

Yeah I'd drop the insurance. Might as well save the $$$ and maybe even throw it into the car.

Insurance isn't enough to bother on mine plus I drive it most of the winter. Hardtop ftw .

i would get storage type insurance, something that still covers it, but its very low if I'm not mistaken. just don't drive it while you haven't changed the insurance back to normal.

We usually drive my gf's car so I have my 2 cars suspended on our insurance with comprehensive only (which comes out to something like $200 extra a year compared to just having her car insured). When I need to use it on the weekend I just call up my insurance agent and have him activate full coverage for that weekend. Works out pretty well for us.

There's an insurance company popular on the Miata forums that's cheap as hell, switch over to it...

http://sneedinsurance.com/ they have insane cheap rates for collector cars as long as you can prove it's a second car & don't drive it a lot. I've seen quotes of $300/year...

Don't know about your state, but in NC, you have to turn in the license tag if you drop the insurance. Then you'd have to go through that process again, too.
Plus, don't you get a multiple car discount?

Most insurance companies don't drop it completely, that just inflate your deductible to an extremely high amount and remove everything except for theft and vandalism coverage. (YMMV by state and laws) This lowers the cost of the "insurance" to near zero and the car is still covered but since it's not to be driven, it won't cover you if you hit someone else.

you pay $200 a year on insurance??? GODDAMNIT I hate Jersey. I pay $1400 a year here for My Sentra SE-R Spec V. Might not be worth the hassle depending on whether or not you have to remove the plates.

Storage insurance on my Miata is about $10/mo, IIRC.

Ah come on! In the cold winter morning air is when your sporty car performs it's best! A shame if you don't drive it

I know I always look forward to lower temps, all my cars, weak and powerful alike, pull noticeably harder in cooler weather.

It helps that I live in Tucson, Arizona and I can run drag radials all year long and not have to worry about snow, ice, salt, etc
