Back in 2006,when i was 19,i got into gaming. For the most part i knew every part and its pricing and all the info when it came out...i kept on top of hardware as far as builds go building them as big and as awesome as possible with big 24'' 1080p monitors and the singly best gpu out during each generation.

Now in 2012 at this current point ,i am becoming not to hard to please, being perfectly content with a 17'' lcd that does 1280x1024 knowing a simple 7850 can max this resolution, not caring for highend parts ....i even purchased a 2500+h61 combo for a recent budget build and honest to god had no idea the existence of a i5 3450 nor i5 3470.....nor knew they were cheaper.

I never screwed up on a build and i was always wanting to go bigger, but now i guess i am losing my edge and overall my desire for building is strictly down to what i have, not what i can replace and basically making the best of what i have.

So,am i alone in this weird moment or is anyone else starting to get to the age of where what you got is enough, with a lacking desire to go extreme when it was in your nature to go big or go home?

You're not alone. Although my reasoning is that new games just aren't as entertaining to me as they used to be combined with the fact that most of them are console ports with lower system requirements. I do still play a few games but hardly ever upon release. I'm getting older and I find newer games to be cheesy with their retarded over-exaggerated cinematics that seem to be for kids in their early teens.

A little. And not in the sense that only kids should game. But more like all the crap they keep pooping out each year is just beneath me intellect. Bethesda dumbs down their games each generation. Most of it is just not fun and sometimes even downright unpleasant to play. For me gaming probably peaked with KOTOR and has been down hill ever since. Every year things get a little prettier and a lot less engaging. Also I think our hardware is more than fast enough, at least until we have major break throughs in computing technology. Mostly what we need is content. And it seems like the only places getting content are paid MMO's. And most of that really isnt too impressive anyway.

Nope, I am content to replay the old classics and try to milk as much entertainment from them as possible. Also save my money. I dont even think I'll bother purchasing Skyrims DLC. And I havent downloaded many free mods either. Once through is enough, the game just doesnt hold me like the others did.

Lucky for me, there are still enough gaming "gems" put out each year to occupy my diminished leisure time.

Because of fantastic steam sales, I now have a backlog of interesting games to play. Because I play 2-3 year old games, my pc EASILY meets all system requirements with power to spare.

It just sounds like your priorities have changed, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

I'll establish that I am old. I save game boxes. I'm looking at (right now) MOO I, MOO II, X-com, Syndicate, C & C, Pacific Strike (ugh!), Diablo I, Z, and The Bard's Tale II (with "I "somewhere around here), TES IV, Street rod II. And more.

Apparently I used to buy a lot of games. In the past year I bought Skyrim. But I do like Skyrim. In fact I mod it.

As MistaFreeze said. Agreed.

NO!

I started playing video games as a kid in 1977 and will be turning 41 very soon. I have more free time now and am enjoying PC games more than ever. They sure have come a long way since Pong.

I am too old to game(mid 60's), but I usually spend a few hours a month doing it anyway. I never buy newly released games and am about two years behind the newest. I prefer strategy and some FPS WW2 and modern warfare types(don't dig monsters/aliens and such). I am still amazed at the technology, both software and hardware that enables you to look and move around in 3 dimensions. I do like to keep my hardware up to date, so I am capable of gaming if I want to.

I haven't really enjoyed anything particularly these last couple years myself. I'll try something new, say 'meh' then back to some old game again. Like mentioned above, game quality has been really stale lately.

I've found that as I've gotten older, I don't game as much as I used to. There's not to many out there that have really sucked me in. I guess Skyrim was the most recent one. There's quite a few games in my collection that I've never finished, so I've been working through those lately.

Mind you it is summer and I don't game nearly as much in the summer months. Winter is a different story.

Fuck no! i will be 39 this year. do i feel to old to be playing games? HELL NO!

there is this. games seem to be aimed at younger kids. Skyrim was great (i broke down and got the dawngaurd dlc..its damn good). I still play WoW but to be honest i think it has more to do with the guild i play with then the game itself. though i am excited about the new content in panda land.

I would love a old style RPG like Dragon warrior or FF6. decent looks but more on the game play. No need to have a cut-scene every 5 minutes. no need for 10 minute spell scenes either (well cancel them if you want). And one t hat takes 300 hours to finish!

After i finish the Dawnguard dlc i been tempted to play my old Ps1 JRPG's agian.

I'm actually getting excited about gaming again thanks to advances coming down the pipeline like the Oculus Rift VR headset. Forget higher resolution textures and other shiny things for the kids, I want my holodeck and don't want to have a spend a fortune to get it.

That shows some maturity IMO. Also today's mid range cards like the 7850 are awesome and the high end cards are just overkill. That was not so true in the past, back in the old days you had to spend an arm and a leg to get decent performance. I love my HD-7850 because it does a great job and does not use a ton of power. I don't know if I'd even want a "better" more power hungry card at this point...

As I've gotten older I haven't stopped gaming but I no longer care about having the best hardware. I just want it to be good enough and to work. So no overclocking, everything is stock and stable.

Since I'm more casual about playing the only multiplayer I care about is co-op. I don't want to make the effort to compete in any kind of PVP.

I still want the best stuff i can afford, the only thing that changed since i got older was that I play for smaller time periods than pulling all nighters.

I think the in game markets lots of games use now to buy perks are geared towards all the aging gamer out there to make up for lost time :D

While such a small monitor and resolution might be obsolete in plenty of ways,BF3 being the primary game i play simply looks great at the native resolution of 1280x1024 and i am happy with it not needing a gtx670 or some other insane card to max out.

Benchmarks show a 7850 should be the cheapest card to pull 60+ fps on ultra at 1280x1024,and well i still kick ass on this monitor as much as i did on a bigger monitor with much higher end hardware while it still looks as fantastic as on a 1080p i think .:)

My previous tower which had 2x gtx670 cards,8gb of ram and a i7 3770k got stolen from my home, and while i have no cash yet to replace such a tower,i realized i could be as happy with a tower with a 7850,a i5 2500 and no ssd, realizing it is all i need, letting go of what i want, and settling down saying ok,this is all i need.

Having just turned 33 and the father of a 10 and 8 year old, I still get in some time to game here and there. Maybe a grand total of 2-3 hours per week. But it takes a special game to catch my attention these days, unlike when I was 19 when I would play whatever 40+ hours a week.

This...

By the time I get all the 'family' duties done...I am so tired I can't find the energy to play a game anymore...I might go on a sprint once in awhile playing a FPS online but after getting destroyed by 15 year olds I lose interest lol.

Have to admit the same. Wife, kids, work... finding time to do more than play something silly on my tablet before falling asleep is getting hard.

Like many I did get in a 100 hours of skyrim over the course of 3 months before I got bored. My steam account also shows 5 hours on Deus Ex HR, and 2 hours of Orcs Must Die (my bargain bin pick ups...)

My wife is playing GW2, and maybe I will borrow her account to see if it's worth picking up for myself, but I figure with my limited time within two days I would be so far behind I would just be playing by myself anyways...

I'm becoming less and less interested in gaming, even when I have free time, but I'm not sure I'd pin that on "getting too old" to game. I think it's more my gaming tastes are changing and maturing, and there are fewer and fewer games that appeal to me.

I think I'm also becoming jaded, to the point where I'm noticing and being more judgmental of and having less patience for the same tired thing being done over and over in games.

Honestly, I think this "generation" so to speak has just worn out it's welcome. I harp on CoD, but really it's just one of many; it's the same gameplay, time after time after time, and it's finally gotten to the point I'm sick of even hearing about it.

I am 33 and still going strong. I have had moments of disinterest, but have always had a few favorite games that I stuck to. Love my rig and love the 1 or 2 games I actually play.

i used to pimp out under the hood of my rig. investing 200.00 card. new corsair 4gb ram. bigger hd size. play pc game. set max setting. fun fun. but not fun gameplay.

it only fun cause customize rig of spec and set max setting.

then i went back to console. found out pc gaming not so fun. tire of messing around with pc parts too... waste of money when i no enjoy its game. i got my share of modern pc gaming experience. i also got my share of late 90s/early 2000 pc gaming experience with rainbow six.

im too old for pc gaming but not too old for console. come home sit on couch grab controller. fight someone online, smoke someone online, killstreak someone online. nice and simple.

no need to be tire hand on keyboard and mouse play long session.
