Ok got enough parts to start putting together, cant wait any longer 🙂

Have my P180 case, still waiting for my PS and DVD drive.

? installing the CPU and HS/FAN . Is it best to do this on mb and then install mb into case? in past i used to install MB in case and then mount cpu and then HS fan but this thing is HUGE and heavy so not sure if any issues.

Also for this P180 case, I have one WD4000 hd, which location would be best for it? bottom chamber or up top?

Fans? there is space for 2 more fans, a 120 up front and then this little 80 in the CPU Duct. Is it worthwhile to do one/both/neither? Any exp with that?

Think thats it for moment, hope the PS gets here soon and that Video card is friggin HUGE it weighs a ton. Cant beleive how much video card has changes since my last one (9700 AIW pro) oh any preference in what slot i put the video card? top or bottom?

thx for all the help

I would mount the HS/F on the board and then put the board inside the case.

Try to put the harddrive in a location that would get good airflow above and below it.

Isn't your Vid card PCIe so you don't have much choice do you? Ok did you not listen to wise advise and go with SLI? If thats the case try to put them as far as you can away from the CPU and PCI slots doesn't make a big difference though

yes its SLI MB, there is one slot up at the top and one towards the bottom. So it doesnt matter which one i use for single?

I don't have a P180 but from what i've read the CPU duct is worthless, you should simply take it out and the HD is best placed in the bottom section on level with the PSU.

There is no reason to add any extra fans other what come with the case but you may want to play with the fans configurations, ie. their placement in the case and direction of airflow, to achieve the best cooling environment, it seems it is different for different hardware.

I'm sure someone with a P180 can confirm or refute what I said and give more and better info.

What I just wrote is simply what i've picked up from other threads regarding the P180 so it may be complete bollocks ... 😉.

OK, so I've been doing some thinking about this SLi business, and it seems to me that unless Nividia and ATI are going to start making cards in pairs, there is no advantage to SLi.

Lets pretned you have a true SLi MOBO that plays both cards at PCIe X16, well you paid a bunch of cash up front for that SLi MOBO, then I'm guessing people are picking up 1 card to start an a second one later once it is cheaper and they need it.

But the thing is if you didn't get an SLi mobo, you could have put that money you saved it in the bank, and in a couple months combined it with the money you were going to spend on the 2nd video card, and buy a new video card that is twice as nice as the two old ones combined.

So unless you are running like two 7800's SLi, I see can't see the reason for someone to get an Sli. But help me undersand.

What helped end this for me was looking at the charts and then finding the costs of two 6800's and an SLi MOBO, VS one 7800 and a non SLi MOBO and then looking at these performance charts:

EDIT: The rig used by Toms was the only True SLi MOBO out there right now:

Man if instead of paying $229 you pay $129 for a non SLi MOBO you can go from a 6800 GS to a 7800 GT and still have $30 in your pocket.

SLI is for people that have the funds and the need/desire for being at the top graphically speaking. Now that doesnt mean if you only have one card you are going to suffer in games tremendously. You can do fine with one card assuming you have a decent card. SLI just allows extra performance and it might allow you to upgrade cards less frequently. Although that is highly being debated amongst the gamers. I guess you could say SLI is more on the extreme side but there is a large segment that likes being on that side of the spectrum. Its going to get really interesting once the multi-engine 3D cards get out into mainstream gaming.

Well, got the AS5 today and installed the HS on it, unfortunately i broke off the little piece of plastic that holds the HS in place once you fold the clip thing over.

It seems pretty tight to me i dont think it will unhook ? anyone any thoughts on this, I havent had done one of these before and i broke the little piece that is where the HS hooks down to the MB, please let me know any ideas

thx
