I just wanted to get a feel from the community on their feelings when starting a new job. All my previous positions were lined up with the good-old-boys network. So, when starting, the atmosphere was always very comfortable.
I recently lined up a nice paying position with an organization that I was assured I would fit right in with by the HR rep and during the interviews with the Sr. Engineers. However, during my orientation It became quickly apparently that my skill set was pretty shallow compared to most of my coworkers and I was quite a few years younger ( and younger looking) to boot.
Anyone have any personal experience with anyone like this in their office. What?s the attitude when those people are out of the room? What are some of the pitfalls made by them?
Overall I?m confident in my ability to do the job; I'll stick to that attitude. However, I still have to work with these people so understanding the office dynamics is a must.
