Starting a PvP character at this point in WoW is suicide

I admit it, i should have gotten in on the ground floor at launch but i did not know how the gamed worked. PvE is boring once i got past lvl 40 with my pally. Raids are the only thing that are really fun anymore. So i tried PvP thinking it would be the same thing. But i find that it is impossible to get past level 25ish at this moment in time. I just did my level 20 warlock quest to get my succubas and had to cross into the wetlands. It took an hour. Got killed 8 times on the way there by level 50+ people who could kill me with one hit. Luckly no one spawn camped. One chased me for 10 minutes and went out of his way for it. Once all your quests are in contested zones, it will be impossible to level. You get killed every 3 minutes. Im going to abandon my lvl 23 warlock and go back to the PvE server. It's sad and its getting boring but at least i can play the game without being constantly dead and having to run back to my corpse. I may sound like a sissy but anyone trying to start a PvP character now is going to commit suicide and waiste a good bit of there time leveling up inside their controlled areas. For once they have to go to contested areas, they will die over and over again. So, i know that i agreed to it when i went to PvP and i did not figure that there would be that many level 50+ that kill you in one shot or people that would go out of there way and waiste 5/10 minutes tracking you down just to give you a bad day. Even on a low population server with <1000 people combined, there are plenty of griefers to go around. RP and PvE are the only way to have fun. Unfortunatly it just gets plane boring after a while. But it is better to be bored and actually able to get a little fun in occasionally than to be stalked by a rogue that can kill you in one hit that is 30 levels higher than you and has nothing better to do than to make sure you have no fun.

Yep, call me a sissy or "why are you bitching" but im diong this to warn future players. Stay clear of PvP, the only people that live are those that got in less than a month after it was released.

Im coming home PvE level 40 pally. Goodbye cruel PvP world.

Well the other option would be to join an established guild so you can have somebody come along with you when you go to risky areas like the Wetlands. I'm not a fast leveler so my PvP characters aren't up to level 20 yet but then again I have 4 characters and only so much time. Plus I'm not a hardcore player like some people are. But that's my general plan. To join a large guild and ask a high level player to escort me if need be to certain areas.

Think of 1-60 as a tutorial...

IMHO the game doesn't really "start" until you hit 60.

Also, there isn't much difference to gaming on a PvP vs. PvE server after 60 anyway - you'll spend much of your time in PvP mode on both.

Good luck!

<cry>Damnit, I need to get back home so I can start playing WOW. I'm gonna have so much damn catching up to do. I cant wait to get lvl'ed up to PVP. I've had tons of MMORPG PvP experience with UO, Shadowbane, and Star Wars Galaxies. I'm already behind the power curve on this game</cry>

we've had some guildmates leave bloodhoof to try pvp servers and they've come back in a week for the most part. on our server you can level in peace, and if you want some pvp action stage a raid, someone is always willing to oblige (and being the horde, we're always outnumbered so we always get our fill).

It isn't suicide it is just a challenge. You have to work together, stay off the roads and actually think like you are in enemy land.

My lvl 24 reroll on Azgalor (a high pop server) isn't experiencing the problems you describe. The key is to stay in areas dominated by your faction. As an alliance player, I can expect to run around free from danger in areas like Wetlands or Duskwood. Conversely, I expect to be killed often when I venture into horde areas like Stonetalon or Thousand Needles. I think it adds to the fun when I am forced to run a mission in enemy territory. It adds a sense of danger to a mission that would ordinarily be just like any other.

Don't get discouraged, your hard work will pay off eventually.

Are you alliance? Go quest in Redridge and Duskwood, you should be able to hit 30 there. Horde presence is small, I've been ganked only once in RR and never in Duskwood (unless you count the Raid and I was attacking horde then). I haven't done much questing in the wetlands yet, but it seems fairly safe, aside from the occasional raid on Menethil Harbor.

A lot of it depends on the time of day you play too. Anytime after 3pm EST on a weekday is dangerous, because the kids are out of school and people are starting to get off of work. If you can play during the daytime or in the mornings, you can make dangerous runs much less annoying.

There's no duability loss in PVP, so the only real annoyance is running back to your corpse.

On PvP servers are there more raids of towns or less?

For comparison, EVERY weekend on my server for the past month, the horde raids at least 2 cities, sometimes up to 4. Last week they actually made it to the night elf island. While also raiding southshore, menethil harbor, astaanar, darkshire, and goldshire.

This week it was less extreme. They only raided southshore and parts of stranglethorn. But even that is impressive considering the performance problems that we have been experiencing. But I'll take performance problems any day over rollbacks.

I assume alliance is doing raids as well.

And BTW, this is on a low pop server.

More... way more...
being that 80% of my server is all L60
they are bored and the Horde have been raiding towns and killing newbs.....
they pretty much stay in STV Booty Bay... and Gadzetran... but lately we have been repelling them out of Duskwood.. they been in there alot over this week...
killing the L30ish peeps... usually dont last long since Alliance is much stronger on my server... we just call 1 group of L60s and they get thier butts kicks back to Horde lands...

That explains that...
ya your screwed....
alliance owns every zone due to sheer numbers vs Horde...

We dont have this problem at all on allaince side..
at least not to this extent...

No wonder you got ganked in the Wetlands then, that's primarily a level 20-30 Alliance area (even though it is contested). It's just a short griffen away from Ironforge, where (at least on my server) a lot of the alliance is bound to.

I ran to Ashenvale to buy the expert cookbook at level 25, I got ganked like 3 times before I was even halfway to where I needed to be. Once in Astraantar I nearly got ganked by a higher level rogue, but I let him chase me until I could frost-nova him within sight of the high level guards. It didn't help that because of some weird graphical bug, about half the players I saw only their shadows and nothing else. I didn't realize it until I was back in IF waiting for a guildmate.

I was expecting it to be dangerous though because its right next to The Barrens.

pick a better zone....
btw dont go to southshore/TM either... thats pure Horde gank grounds by L60 alliance..

I play on PvP. I have been playing for a month, but I'm not very high level (30). I get pissed when a high level kills me when I am questing in the Barrens (horde territory). But, I just pick up my corpse and mutter an apology to all the future alliance that will meet the same fate I just did. If I get camped, its frustrating, but there are many people who would take pleasure in answering my pleas for help and come send that dirty alliance person to hell.

I love the added danger and threat when venturing to Alliance lands or contested areas. I like the thrill of turning a corner and seeing the bar of red and thinking oh crap, I hope he isnt ??? or riding a mount. Travelling in a group to these places is recommended (and enjoyable) because unless you stumble across a group of very high levels, people might not mess with you, and if they do you might be able to hold your own.

Maybe my opinion will change as I start to do more quests in contested areas. As it is, I have enjoyed my time in Stonetalon Mtns and Ashenvale (contested). Ive been ganked, camped, sniped while fighting a mob, you name it. But, I have also laid the smack down on just as many other unfortunate Alliance. Its just great :)

They'll tire of their lame ganking sooner or later probably. Changes are upcoming and an honor system is being implemented.

You shouldn't get ganked in the barrens - it's Horde territory. If you see someone who's tag is yellow, they can't attack you unless you attack them first. I want to make a trip out there to catch some Deviate fish, but as an alliance mage at level 27, I'm sure anyone even remotely near my level would be gunning for me.

As far as the honor system, it's supposed to be already implimented. It only works with NPC's though apparently. I see nothing in the interface about "Faction honor" though, so maybe they took it out after beta.

They probably won't add PVP honor unless it's in battlegrounds only, otherwise you'd get people teaming up on opposite sides and a higher level character letting a low lever character kill him for honor points, then vice versa.

I'm level 40 on Bleeding Hollow PvP in an established guild and it is FUN. I almost always quest in groups with guild members, and 90% of the time we are the ones doing the killing and ganking. Even when we get killed it's usually a fun and frantic battle.

Also, my server is one of the most balanced ones in terms of Alliance/Horde population. I heard that lots of guilds from DAOC are on the Horde side on my server, so that explains the constant raids on Auberdine and the endless level 60 battles between Southshore/Tarren Mill.

Why you would ever WANT to play on a server that is 4:1 in your own faction's favor is beyond me...
