Greetings all,

My parents are opening a restaurant, and because I am considered the family geek, I have been asked to create a professional website for them. I just have a few questions:

-How much do domains cost per month/annually?

-Can you recommend a domain and/or online tutorial or FAQ that I can refer to on this topic?

-Can anyone recommend a web design program that I could use?

Thanks guys; sorry if I posted in the wrong area of the forum, didn't know where else to post it.

Cheers,

Rakewell

well he could get the dreamweaver evaluation, good for 30 days or so. Buttt you sound like you dont know much about web design at all, so i am thinking you probably dont know html. THerefore maybe the template amdskip linked is worth it, unless you got time to read up on html, css, and possibly javascript for fanciness. Also if you plan on accepting orders and stuff then you will need php (or asp, but i dont like that!) knowlege.

Your question is of type that is very easy to answer, but there is really No Good Definitive answers.
It depends on many variables and some are even not in play until you start and try.

-Can you recommend a domain and/or online tutorial or FAQ that I can refer to on this topic?

This site has a lot of info. (Some good some bad): http://webhosting.devshed.com/c/b/Web-Hosting-HowTos/

-How much do domains cost per month/annually?

Price start from Free to thousands of $$ per month. It is one of the things that you have to try and be ready to change according to the outcome. I would start with a service that goes for about $5 a month.

No matter what read note1 and note 2 at the end of this page: http://www.ezlan.net/myip.html

Some people that keep it simple write in Word or Publisher save it as html files and put the files on their Site. I use FrontPage. Many use other elaborate suits.

There is even specialize templates that might build a Restaurant Site with informational info and thus reducing the needs to develop or design anything: http://www.flashvista.com/website_templates_restaurant/

What you should do is up up what you do now and what you would like to invest time in learning. IMHO the best middle of the road approach is FrontPage.

I use this guys Text and I have been very happy with them. They have some good information and tutorias on their front page for beginers. If you sing un with them, they have templates you can use right into ther administration panel to create your web page and easy to use tools. You can create your own logos and many other things.

Buy the domain name (I used GoDaddy). Use a web page maker for idiots program (I use Ixla Web Easy), and then find one of those Host for free with no ads, pop-ups or banners (I use www.atspace.com).
Domain name=13bucks
Ixla Web Easy=20 bucks
Hosting = 0 bucks
Maintaining your valued image as the family GEEK = priceless
