Starting a new WoW Char

Been a few months since I've played, no other MMO games have caught my eye. All done with Far Cry and Quake 4.

Back to WoW I go!

I might make a character on Gul'dan, the two week old PvP realm. OR, I might wait until blizzard throws up another batch of new realms. I was browsing the site, though, and noticed a post by a Blizzard member saying the new realms would be for transfers only for two weeks, then they would enable character creation. Sort of negates the whole point of a new server, in my opinion, but no one asked me, did they?

Anyhow, I'll probably be playing at LEAST 3-4 hours most days, a bit more on sunday. Most people would call me a nice guy, and I find playing solo kind of boring.

Anyone interested?

No, of course not. I just canceled my WoW account, in fact. It's pretty boring once you get to 60... raiding is quite dull, and all the outdoor quests dry up. Not only are they not adding new 5-15 man stuff anytime soon, but most of the existing stuff (Scholomance, Stratholme, BRS, BRD) is akin to watching paint dry unless you're a tank (in which case it's akin to watching paint dry slightly faster). The big raid dungeons are even worse. Again, unless you're the tank in ZG/MC/BWL you'll just be hitting one attack button over and over again, or hitting one attack button over and over AND spamming a decurse/poison cure/disease cure/demagic. The encounters aren't interesting, and if the drops don't suck they look like crap. In fact, the allure of getting items isn't really that great to begin with, I wish they'd make some fun group encounters rather than long group encounters whose only reward is new gear.

PvP is a dull grind too. With all the overpowered and pointless items that come out, most 1v1 fights are over in a matter of seconds unless you're a pally/druid, in which case it just prolongs the pain of no strategic fighting. If you have a decent PvP guild and go up against a similar guild it can be fun, but how many times does one repeat the same BG (AB usually because nobody wants to que for WSG/AV at 60 on many servers) over again? Not many, in my case. You could go for the PvP rewards, but the gear pretty much sucks for all of the caster classes, and much of it sucks for other classes as well anyway. Plus it's just a long boring grind to up your rank/reputation and get those items anyway.

So no, I'm not going to start a new character with you.

*applauds* I would have also accepted "No thanks". :)

I haven't played past 45ish, still a good bit of the game I haven't covered, not to mention the expansion coming up.

*shrugs* Thanks for the honest reply.

Yeah, very in depth!

I appreciate him taking the time to point out the negatives, etc.

I just need something I can relax and play for a few hours a day.

i started again recently and i really enjoyed it, but only up until BRD and the beginning of the endless armor/item grind. some of the endgame bosses are fun, but only the first two or three times, and when they make the reputation rewards take 100+ runs to reach, i don't see how they expect anyone to get that far and continue to enjoy the game. the new instances will keep you involved for a few runs where you learn the bosses, but all the while everyone is just gonna be counting their repair bill in their head while trying to figure out exactly how many hundreds of runs or turnins will get you to exalted

getting characters to 60 on new servers is still fun, but if you ask me, the only way they could breathe new life into the game is by creating a new test server where you can copy a level 60 character, choose your gear/items, and where there is a ladder system for battlegrounds and/or world pvp objectives that actually affect the world itself. it would be a server where you keep playing because you're having fun, not where you have to give up 6 hours in a row several times a week to plow through some trash mobs, or plow through a bunch of pugs in AB so you can gain a rank which has nothing to do with honor, skill, or strategy.

plus i'm sick of these pvp videos where rank 14s with their nifty potion/tuber timing mods take out one guy and gloat about it as if they had no advantage.

Yeah, it'll be fun to see some of the end game bosses. Always hear people talk about them, but never actually fought against one. I'm sure it lapsese into tedium pretty quickly, but hopefully a good PC game will have been released by then that I can detour to.
