I'm not really sure what the job is yet, i'm working as an on-campus tech for a couple of the computer labs. Shouldn't be too bad (i think) but it'll take some time to figure out what's going on

I apparently have some pretty neat printer printing privilages, and can access the labs 24 hours a day now.

Oh and while they pay isn't as good as when i was working as a painter, i don't have to inhale paint or lead dust or deal with all the other work hazards of that job. And my pay as a tech isn't taxed! (though this isn't really anything new, i was a painter afterall)
I have to work on mac's too, this should be interesting.

Just thought i'd share cause i'm already just sitting here waiting for something to happen :) A  to one of the better communitys i've been posting too. a  for you all, and :wine: for the more sophisticated tastes.

Good Times and Cheers,
- Oogabooga

I'm not sure why it's not taxed. Educational position i guess? I know i can't claim any benefits from working here, and if i develop something reall neat while working on a school computer i can't claim it as my own.

They just mentioned to me that it was untaxed and i just said "Sure, sounds good"
Probally gives it to me via scholarship or something (but i'm setup for direct deposit into bank account), i'm not 100% sure.

My first shift is almost over already, this mac keyboard is wierd.

I don't have work study setup through the school, i didn't really think about why it was untaxed, but from my understanding, all on campus jobs were untaxed. I guess i should ask, but not ask too much. I'd hate to be the guy who asked too many questions, and now everyone pays tax.

Congrats! Sounds like a good deal.

The reason to ask questions about the tax is that if it turns out that you ARE taxed, you don't want any surprises. The IRS generally considers all types of income to be taxable - if there is an exception, you'd best be clear about it from the beginning.

my balloon has slightly deflated, apparently it is taxed, but then it's not? people don't seem to know the vast majority say untaxed, one of two have said taxed. i'll just wait for my first paycheck to see if it's taxed or not.

even if it is taxed, i sat at work, playing around with a top of the line G5 on a 23in apple ciniema display, surfing anandtech forums, reading up on world of warcraft, and even playing around with the mac os. It's different toys, i still play with them, and now i get paid. Good stuff for me.
I can't wait till i have a video to edit or something, 24 hour access to a top of the line G5 computer lab, top of the line P4 computer lab... mmmm....

It is untaxed provided you dont make over a given amount. I believe it is 5k.

I do work study at my school, Bentley College.
