If you have a lot of money(100k+), contact the manufacturers directly for minimum order quantity and price quotes.

If you still have a lot of money, but less(50k+), I think the thing to do is to get a merchant account(or whatever) with Dell.

If you don't have a lot of money.... well, good luck.

don't try to be newegg overnight. i've heard the strategy is to build a niche first, get a good reputation for CS, and then build on that. keep us posted, I will definitely take a look at your hardware when you're up and running :)

With the wholesaler's aimed at small stores (TechData, D&H, etc), you're better off just hitting up pricewatch and buying the goods there. When I worked at a small computer store, our prices from D&H weren't as cheap as the lowest price on pricewatch, so we eventually just stopped using our wholesaler and started buying stuff online for customer's computers.

That probably won't work very well for you, beings as you want to ship stuff to customers who order from you. Just be aware, the prices from wholesalers aren't always very cheap.

I setup a partnership and signed up for the federal tax id and local tax resell certificate.

You can also:

Setup a Solution Provider account through Dell and you're allowed to sell pretty much their entire catalog of products.

Setup an account with Ingram Micro - $100 application charge which is refunded if you sell $1,500 of product in the first 120 days of your account being opened.

I would say you could do the same for a B&M, as long as you don't have to purchase realty.
