I have read this article over and over for months now, and have decided to do something (hopefully that works) and we can at least give back to Courtney who is taking a stand for Musician Rights against the RIAA. Maybe, if the musicians can break free from the RIAA and its grasp on distribution and playlists (If I hear another britney spears song on the radio, but then again, I gave up on Radio. I remember growing up hearing a TRUE mix of music from more than the proscribed 7-10 groups that do get airplay today). Here is a link to a copy of her article (which I know you already have) http://newvox.com/courtney.htm ... It originated on Salon.com, and it is truly a masterpiece to read. I suppory Courtney Love no matter what she does or produces, she has put a light on the RIAA as well as other artists have as well, and hopefully, we can beat the Fat Cat and Government practices of 'protecting their own' at the costs of everyone else. I remember the Constition and the Bill of Rights, and I even passed mathematics, so how can a company be suing for lost money when they generated PROFITS (even larger than the year before). That is simple math if you ask me. If you didn't lose money, you gained therefore, any money you claim to have lost is in a buisness model that is incorrect. Even if I would download a Britney Spears MP3 (heaven forbid), I would NOT have bought the album in the first place. You cannot ASSUME that people would have purchased something because it is available. I buy what I want to buy, regardless of a copy that could be had nor free or otherwise.

the point of all this is that I would like to Raise money for Courtney Love. All money will go to her, and nothing shall be retained. This is totally for the artist, and a way to speak and be heard (and why not give Courtney a little money for her honesty and help her in her fight). I am asking to give anything that you can, want, etc... be it a quarter, a dollar, five dollars, or more....

All money is going to her, I woudl like to get the word out (and no better place than on Slashdot first). I thank you for your time and your support....

Cuntney is an idiot. She is just doing it because it's what her heroin saturated brain thinks she should do. She has no clue what's going on in the real world.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not bitter towards her or anything ;)

I don't think it is that she wanted all themoney to go to herself, but rather, that with the way the RIAA controls everything (radio play, distribution, etc...) what other choice do you have but to take a horrible contract. The reason the RIAA is going after Napster is not about piracy, but to shut down the distribution channel. That is what they cannot control, and that is what is of threat to them.

You have the choice of not taking the contract. If things are going to change people need to stop signing their names on the dotted line. If the RIAA does not get enough new people they will not be able to make money which means they change or die. You can't expect them to change when people keep singing so quit complaining about them.

Yeah, but monopolies don't go away either. When you practically own the industry, you dictate to it (and since the government is allowing it, and will continue to based on the lobbying that is being done) until it is a 3rd world country, no one is going to change a thing.

Courtney sucks, I don't know why Manson ever invited her on that tour in the first place.....good thing he kicked her off before they got to Houston, they might have been enough reason for me to not go...

Collecting money for courtney? I think she's making enough off Nirvana royalties to fund her own fight against the riaa. If she puts out something worth buying, i'll buy it. So far, nothing from hole has been worth putting in my playlist.

I hate to put it like this, but I hope no one gives this joker Terpsy a dollar... period.

1) Courtney has quite a bit of $$$. The little you can "raise" is like a drop in a bucket.

2) How do I know what I contribute does not go to the terpsy fund?

3) Doing it herself, she gets a tax break. You get nothing. Let her collect the $$$ if she needs it.

If you really want to help, terpsy, the best weapon we have is mass in numbers and word of mouth. Cash is a moot point.
