I'm trying to move within 20min driving distance. Is this pretty much true?

is long beach within reasonable commute? and how dangerous is that.

I currently live in duarte and do a 1.5 hour each way commute. i'm moving closer by the end of the month. i have posted about working here, but now that i actually work here, i want to kill my self everyday i sit in traffic.

It all depends on how much you want to spend because most of the green is going to be more expensive than Duarte.

Green was an appropriate choice for that area of town when it comes to housing.

And Long Beach is an armpit.

1.5 hours is pretty miserable but you're going to have to pay for it.

The green areas are really expensive. Agreed that the affordable parts of Long Beach are a dump. It's one of the most depressed areas too. You're probably better off finding some place in west San Pedro but not quite in Eastview/RPV as a bad compromise. The commute still won't be great but it's not in your red area.

There are small pocket areas of Carson and Torrance that aren't too bad and is way cheaper than all the *Beaches. But you have to be careful. You move a couple blocks and then Carson/Torrance can get bad.

What's your budget and what type of place and sqft are you looking for?

Used to live and work near el segundo

If you're looking to live on your own, its expensive everywhere in that green area.
If you have a roommate its not too bad, and if you're working at one of the various defense contractors you're likely making enough to live pretty comfortably with a roommate.

east side of the 405 is a pretty shitty part of town overall, there might be a few decent places, but you'll have to hunt them down.

North Long Beach is shit. Downtown and south along the coast are nice but expensive and you'll still have an hour long commute.

Find something in the South Bay area. Torrance area would be good. Some parts of North Torrance are decent and over by the Del Amo shopping center. I don't know if it is still decent but there were some nice apartments near Ladera Heights my wife and I lived in before we were married. Check out Palaya del Rey as well.

El Segundo? Are you with Space and Missile Command?

yea i work for Space and Misslile Command, im a federal employee.

to the rest. My budget is 750-850 and hoping to share a 2br1ba apartment or townhouse for about 1500-1700. The pictures initally were very deceiving, after I visited a few in the area and they mostly are shit holes.

I commute to Westchester from Mid-wilshire/Koreatown, takes 20-30 minutes. Rent in that area isn't as crazy as West LA.

You can find some good deals in Palms (90034) and West LA proper (90025).

What's your budget?
