As far as I can tell, and I'm republican, NPR is the most 'neutral' news. If they do something that was biased one way or the other, people write in emails/letters about it and they read them on the air. Good luck finding another news source that does that.
Like fox news and similar ilk, npr has an agenda. It's just not accompanied with the demand that the listener turn off his brain. I believe this is the main reason npr threatens so many wingnuts. This and a gentler tone in general.

The local public radio affiliate (MPR) actually has three stations: one for news and two for music.
I know this seems insulting. They do serve similar purposes though - the dissemination of news, current events and opinion. They just go about it in very differently.Originally posted by: jjzelinski

You can't have fox news and NPR in the same sentence as if they were comparable to each other. Fox news is openly slanted, it doesn't even try to pretend it's not.

Not all agendas are evil.
Ok, I won't put them in the same sentence anymore. Thinking about this has brought back some unpleasant memories - mainly of fox talking heads. I'm not as sensitive to them since I haven't seen them (or any of the talking heads) since I dumped satellite tv last summer. This has been the best decision I've made this decade.Originally posted by: jjzelinski

I'm going to employ a bit of hyperbole just to illustrate a point, and that's Al Jazeer. They, too, disseminate news, current events, and opinions. Another way of looking at is through analogies; a Yugo and a Ferrari are both cars, Gigli and Citizen Kane are both movies, Err Body in tha Club and Handel's Messiah are both songs. I don't see the comparison between FNC and NPR any differently.

Fresh Air is entertaining 80% of the time..
Then of course All Things Considered for the last 2 hours of work. I love hearing that bumper music. It means I'm on the home stretch.

I've been listening to it for probably less than a year, but wish that I had been listening to it much longer. I stream it online all day at work, and listen in the car. Quality programming FTW.

If I have one complaint about public radio it's the fund raising. Twice a year they play the guilt card (catholic, jewish?) to get money. And they are already funded by each and everyone of us federal taxpayers.
Even though there are still no official commercials, there are now (last few years) product and/or company 'announcements'. You can be sure that the station demands a 'donation' for these spots.
