Start up times fo XP Pro

I started up my brother's 733 MHZ PIII the other day, and noticed how much faster it starts up than my 2 GHz Pentium Celeron.

This led me to the following thought: during the actual loading up of icons, and programs of Windows, my programs take a considerable amount of time to load up. I've noticed the two main culprits for this are probably Konfabulator, and NISC (Norton Internet Security Center). I was wondering if there was a way in which to configure Windows such that it would load up all the other programs first, and then load up Konfabulator, and then NISC. Or maybe, is there another way to streamline the start up of Windows.

TIA

A good sanity check would be to eliminate auto loading of anything. Start your Norton and Konfabu-whatever manually after your system is loaded and ready. And, take out other auto start proggies as well, and then note the difference. Sometimes convenience is worth some time - and sometimes it isn't.

That's not the problem though, corkyg. The problem is that, I want those things to start up, but I want those things to start up after everything else loads up, because if they start first (for example) then they suck too many resources for the other apps to start-up.

The main thing I was wondering about was if there was a way to make NISC, and Konfabulator start at the end of all the programs starting.

The following things start on my computer during start-up:

RealVNC
Windows Wireless Zero Config (the thing that starts up your wireless internet connection)
NISC
Konfabulator
QuickTV (A TV Tuner thingy)
Konfabulator
Daemon Tools
UltraMon
M/S Anti-Spyware
Quicktime (which I am going to disable right now...)

If possible, from those things, I want everything else to load up first, and then NISC, and then Konfabulator.

No way to do this?

edit: these things are starting up in my Notification area of my Taskbar.

Why don't you use hibernation to shut down your pc. It loads up pretty fast the next time you boot. That is the only reliable solution I have found which works on my 700 MHz PIII with 128 MB RAM running WINXP.
