Start up problem

I have a donated Dell Optiplex GX150 that is caught in a loop and won't let the OS start up. The original error message was "Primary hard disk drive 1 not found." I opened the case, and checked all of the cables, making sue they were plugged in correctly. I also took the CMOS battey out for about 15 minutes and put it back in. I checked the BIOS boot order and the settings for the computer, and they seemed correct. Now when I start up the computer, I get the "We apologize..." screen and when I choose any of the start Windows options, i.e. normally, safe mode, last known etc., the Windows start up screen comes on, goes through its normal routine, but then kicks back to the Apology screen. Any thoughts or suggestions?
