Start Up Problem

I have just built a new computer. When I push the power button nothing shows up on the monitor and the computer just beeps.

Im really not sure what it is, I think its because It didn't pass the power on test.

Please help

I have just built my second computer and I am by far a guru of this kind of stuff, but I can possible throw a suggestion or two your way.... is your memory pushed all the way into its slot? Is your hard drive set up as the primary or secondairy slaves? Are all of your jumpers set correctly? Hopefully by checking all of these components, something can help you!!! Good luck,

Another thing that I just thought of is trying to clear out your CMOS...try disconnecting you power cord on the back of your computer, pulling the little battery out that is on the inside of your computer and adjust the jumpers right next to the battery. Let the computer sit in this condition for about 15 minutes and put it all back together the way it was and then try turning it on...that helped me once before but it was not on a new build.... Theres this thing about jumpers in the manual.

Clear RTC RAM (CLRTC). Is this mandatory?

Not too sure, you MIGHT have too....the only thing that I have ever had to clear was CMOS.... Sorry I can't help you more on that one!

Hi... Donutz has some good suggestions - you won't have to leave your CMOS battery out for that long - anything close to a minute will suffice and often much less. Do you think your system is booting or do you think it is just freezing before the boot process? You may be able to guess by listening for hard drive activity. How many beeps do you hear when you power on? You might have to check beep codes for your motherboard to properly diagnose the problem. g/l

Ok, I think It was a problem with the memory, I switched the slots, Now when It starts up, no beeps, but nothing on the monitor, everthing seems to be working fine, fans, CPU, HDD...

The monitor just shows black.


I'm running a Dell E771p monitor, maybe I need to switch it from analog to digital or something?

Hmm. Try reseating your video card and check your monitor connections. If no luck, check the video card's contacts to make sure they are clean. Also, make sure you are not tightening the screw holding your video card in place down too much - sometimes if they are reefed on too tightly it can cause the card to unseat just enough to cause problems.

If you are still having no luck, definitely reset the CMOS to see if you can get it to post. If you still have no luck, it's time to try a video card swap, if you have one that you can try. If the mobo is PCIe though, I doubt you have an extra one of those laying around. =) Best of luck...
